Send Silence Packing

Hello Loves,

Today at school our Active Minds chapter hosted the Send Silence Packing Event. It was a very difficult exhibit to walk through. You See all these backpacks lining and filling up the Green in the middle of campus. There was no way of avoiding them. And on the backpacks were papers, with stories, detailing the story of a person that had committed suicide.

Most of the stories mentioned how people around that person had no idea that he/she was struggling so much. Both the stories and my own personal experiences made this an incredibly difficult and emotional day. It was so hard to see all the bags, each representing a college student that we will lose to suicide each year. Suicide claims the life of over 1,100 students every year.

This is such a hard topic to talk about and I am so grateful to Active Minds and my school for having this exhibit. Even if people didn't read the stories they became more aware of the problem. We need to become the solution. We need to change the way we view mental health and how we talk about it. This is all very important, If you are struggling with any sorts of mental health problems or need any help please don't hesitate to reach out. Reach out to a friend, family member, teacher, counselor, or anyone else you trust. It will be the scariest most worthwhile step you will ever take.

If you or someone you know needs help, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, immediately. This 24-hour service is available to anyone in need of help. Never ignore or underestimate remarks about suicide. If you think your friend is in immediate danger, do not leave him or her alone—stay there and call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Stay Safe

10 Things You Should Do in your 20s

Hello Loves,

As we all know your 20s are an interesting and important time for growth and fun. We find ourselves and set ourselves up for a successful future! Here's some advice I got to move forward.

1. Travel!!
- travel long, travel far! Experience the world. Experience your own backyard. You will never gain as much life experience as you will by travelling.

2. Think of money as a result not a goal....
- "Don't stress about money, it'll come"

3. .... But Save
- It's important to buy things and experience the world but its even more important to save for your future while having fun along the way.

4. Start Taking Care of your Body
- Its all downhill from here. You will never be this young again.

5. Tame your Tech
- While we are all addicts of our iphones, laptops, and any other glowing screen its important to put them away and enjoy the world around you! Enjoy the feel of a book, or the look of a sunset.

6. Forgive yourself and others
- no one is perfect! 20s is a perfect time to realize how perfectly unperfect we all are. And we must own up to our mistakes, forgive them, and move forward. This is the only way we can move forward in our lives.

7. Distance yourself from Drama
- Life is too short to be surrounded by problems!

8. Invest in Self-Knowledge
-Your 20s is the best time to start understanding yourself. It will be a long journey in self-discovery but you will learn about what makes you tick. How you feel about love, trust, honesty, humans, and the world around you. These are all important for a successful future.

9. Slow Down
-With the craziness that is the modern world it is some times difficult to take a step back and appreciate everything. It is vital that we learn to slow down and take it all in.

10. Floss!
- this one always gets forgotten so I might as well put it out there. Take care of yourself and your teeth and FLOSS!

Book Club: September 2014

Hello Fellow Clubbies!

one// The Here and Now by Ann Brashares
A forbidden future romance! Need I say more? This one is pretty interesting. It really makes you think! When I first started reading it I didn't think it would be so thought provoking but it was totally worth it and awesome! I totally recommend this love story.

two// Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
I loved this novel!!!! The way the story is told is heart wrenching, mysterious, and absolutely sucks you in. I love novels that transport you to a different time and place and Sara does a fabulous job of this. I would recommend it to anyone you wants to learn about the circus or go on a crazy adventure.

Happy Reading!

Do Yoga With Me

Hello my Yogis,

So as you know my previous blog got deleted, which was so sad because I posted about this awesome website that helped with my goal of waking up early and practicing yoga every morning for a month. Doing yoga every morning has been a long-time goal of mine, finding this site has really helped me be able to reach my goal. I don't have the energy or money to go to a yoga studio in the early morning.

DoYogaWithMe.com

The first video I tried out was "Love Yourself". It was the perfect video for my life at the moment. And at times its still the perfect video for when you need some rest, relaxation, and self love!!! I suggest trying a bunch of different beginners videos out and then find the one that works best for your needs at that moment.

New Lilly Dress

Hello My Loves,

In the After Party Lilly Pulitzer Sale I was unable to pass up some of the greatest deals! I ended up buying one dress. I wanted to buy another one but sadly it was sold out when I went to purchase it. My best friend and I ended up with great dresses and we are super happy with our selections.

Sorry these are so late! I have been so busy with school that I wanted to retake the pictures but I never got around to it and I knew if I didn't post them now I probably would never. So ignore the ugly backgrounds.

Motivational Monday

Hello Loves!

Well its back to another week at school! I am looking forward to a more relaxed and quiet week. Hopefully I will be able to get regular hours of sleep!!! And on Thursday I am looking forward to a pizza date with my twin/best friend. I am so excited for a quiet week in.

Some of my friends have been dealing with problems, just as I have. We are all fighting secret battles that no one else can see. But we are all strong and moving forward. That's what I will be thinking about as I go into this quieter week.

First Mixer of the Season!

Hello All!!

Happy Friday!! Another long week is finally coming to a close! It has been a long week with many, many late nights. I have been getting home at 2am most nights. It is absolutely crazy, but I am having a lot of fun in between. One of the most fun nights was last night. We had our ocean themed mixer with Kappa Sigma last night. We all had to dress up then we went to a restaurant nearby and had our party. It was a good time!

Didn't have time for a full costume but expertly turned her broken finger into Nemo

With the best friend!

There are too many creeper shots of  Niece with that boy!!! (we all hope they go on a date)
It was a fun mixer! I got a good use of my Lilly dress which was super exciting! And my niece (who is my best friend/twin's little) was talking to a boy most of the night which was the best part of the night!!! Now if we can get them to date that would only make it better!

Cheers to the Weekend!

My Happy

Hello Loves,

Its been a hard couple of days these passed few weeks. Stories like this one always have the ability to bring that brightness into your day. My sorority, Chi Omega, supports Make-A-Wish Foundation as its national philanthropy. So it makes me even more happy when I see an amazing wish come to life. I like knowing that I am able to help even if its a tiny little bit.

meeting

She looks so absolutely ecstatic! I am so grateful I was able to experience her wish come true. It really brought me happiness to see a little girl so happy and wonderful to see her best, greatest wish come true! Its the little things like this that really help on bad days :).

To many wishes and happiness

Wrapping up the Week

Hello All!

This week started off a little rough with bits of good news.... Like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are having another baby!!! That was my favorite news all week!

After that it's been a super busy week. From classes to meetings to trying to catch up with friends, I feel like I was thrown into the middle of a crazy school year.

Most of all I've had a pretty uninspired week. I just didn't have time or motivation to be inspired. It was sad and draining. I'm hoping next week is brighter and happier with more fun and less stress.

How was your week??

International Literacy Day

Hello My Book Worms!

I know I am not the only one here that likes to curl up with a nice book and enjoy the rest of the night enveloped in a tale written for me and my imagination. I love being able to curl up with a book and be able to enjoy it. From a very young age my parents stressed the importance of reading. They read books to us every night and we would read together all the time. That is how I started reading the Harry Potter Series.

I've always been a bookworm. I could not imagine my life without books in it. The fact that there are so many people in the world that cannot read saddens me. As of 2010 84% of humans above the age of 15 can read and write. This is a significant increase from previous years and I hope it will continue to increase. Reading and writing help to significantly change the world.

After reading I am Malala, I realized how important reading is. She was showing through her life experiences that with more education the world would be a better and safer place. Literacy will lead to increased peace, development, education, empowerment, health, and equality. It is so impressive how one little thing can be so incredibly important. Its funny how we do not realize how so many things deal with reading and writing. My dream would be for the literacy rate to be at 100% and for everyone to be a book worm!!

Happy Reading

Game Day!!!!

Hello All!

Well as school comes to a start so does football season!!! This, of course, is followed by game day tailgating and all sorts of shenanigans. Obviously we all had to go to the game day home opener! We played so well and even won!! It was such fun! Except I'm not really good at the tailgating thing...... we went to different frats and got showered with beer (not recommended) but overall it was very fun!

Made With Code

Hello All,

My sister was telling me about this cool website which teaches basic code for younger women. As a 20 year old I am thoroughly enjoying myself tinkering with these different codes. There was a basic code of gifs, bracelets, avatars, etc.

The founders and innovators of Made With Code are women who have been empowered by code. By giving girls all different tools it empowers them, helping them achieve all their goals.

With their goal to help empower women one of the coolest gadgets they have is the Bracelet. You code the bracelet and personalize it. You can choose a color and something for it to say and then Google will 3D print it and send it to you for free. It is super cool and fun to see something you coded come to life! I cannot wait to get mine!! (Yes I made one I could not resist).

Happy Coding!

Pancake Crown Braids

Hello Loves,

Going back to some old fashion TooTangled today! This is one of the first hairstyles I learned to do! I love this one. It is perfect for any occasion and super simple to accomplish!

What You'll Need:
- Hair Brush
- Bobby Pins
- Hair Spray

Steps:
1. Brush out your hair to leave it as knot less as possible.
2. Near the temple and above the ear grab about 1 inch of hair.
3. Braid that hair sideways across the back of your head (so there is no weird bump next to your face)
4. Bobby pin the hair behind where you will be starting your second braid.
5. To make the braid look fuller lightly pull the edges of the braid to "pancake" it.
6. Allow the braids to sag a little.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 on the other side.
8. Once the braids have been pinned spray them so they do not move.

Happy Hairdoing!

Sleepy Time!

Hello my fellow sleepers!

A couple weeks ago I was hanging out with my sister right before bed time and she pulled out her phone and went to Sleepy Time.

She started explaining that Sleepy Time calculates the optimal time for you to wake up or go to sleep according to sleep cycles so you wake up feeling refreshed!!

You could say I was mostly skeptical about the whole thing but then I started trying it....... And boy does it work!!!!! I have not woken up groggy or foggy since! I really enjoy being able to set my alarm knowing that in the morning I will be completely refreshed! Not only that I only need one alarm to get up because its in that perfect time to get up, when I don't need to be startled awake.

Sleep Well!

Book Club: August 2014

Hello My Book Club Members!!

So this month was Mystery Month!!!! All the books I read were mysteries!!! I absolutely love the suspense and thrillers! I do not like horror stories (it really is a fine line). I started the month by going back to the classics: Agatha Christie, the best mystery writer of all time.

one// Three Blind Mice and Other Stories By Agatha Christie
These are really short stories. Three Blind Mice is the longest of the short stories in the novel. It is very well written and utterly captivating. The next couple of short stories feature approximately the same people in the same town. Even though they are different stories they are connected and it gives the over all feel of a full novel. The great part of short stories is that you can read them quickly when you do not have much time.

two// If Looks Could Kill by Kate White
I got this book before I finished the previous one and I had to go somewhere with my mom and she did not have a book to read in the waiting room so I lend her this one. She absolutely loved it so much she took it from me. I had to wait for her to finish reading it before I could get my claws in it (Don't worry she's a quick reader). I'm a huge fan of this book! It has mystery, sex, joy, and thrill all combined into one novel you can't put down!

Happy reading!
