Book Club: October 2015

Hello Fellow Clubbies!!

This month was such a struggle! I had the hardest time getting a book to read. I ordered a book and it was the wrong book, so I had to return it anyway long story short I was finally able to get my hands on the books that I did want to read for this month. I did have to start a little later than I normally would've liked, but I was so happy to have my book that I couldn't put it down!!

The book I picked a self-help book! It was an interesting read and it had a lot of really great information! Someone I really trust and respect suggested that I look into Brene Brown, her TED talks and her books, more specifically this book. Although it was suggested to me a while back it was definitely a great read and I highly recommend it!!
Gifts-of-Imperfection

one// The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown
This is not like regular self-help books, it is not a list of dos and do nots. It is  more of patterns and habits that we should practice to develop Wholehearted Living. I think that it was really helpful and interesting to read. Its a quick read and Dr. Brown is super personable! I would totally suggest checking out her blog too!!

What are you reading?

Living In Eternal Summer

Hello Loves,

Fall is officially in full swing around the entire country. There has even been a snapstory showcasing the fallen leaves, the pumpkin patches, the hay rides, and all the flannel. Too bad where I live fall doesn't even mean cooler temperatures..... It is kind of horrible. Fall is this beautiful, happy season that everyone loves, yet we get none of it! Luckily this means we do not get any winter (yay warmth).

I am dying to be able to use flannel, vests, boots, and jeans. I want to crunch on fallen leaves and have some warm apple cider on a crisp fall day. The difference in fall is felt in the slightly cooler mornings and slightly less rain and humidity. Although we are still in hurricane season so we still get a substantial amount of rain!

As much as I want fall, I always get too cold. It might be because we do not actually have real winter/fall clothes to keep us warm or that I'm just too easily cold. But fall/winter is always a nice time to sit outside and enjoy nature. There are no bugs and very little rain, then the temperature dips to the 70s which makes for perfect weather!! Even though we do not get the typical pumpkin patches, hay rides, or apple picking we do (eventually) get cooler weather (for a while at least!).

What is fall like where you live?

Senior Year Bucket List

Hello Loves,

Senior year is well in motion now! In order to get ready for Senior Year my friends and I made an extensive senior year bucket list! I think its tradition at my school for all seniors to have a bucket list and then to add to the increasingly long list at school. There is a wall in the Student Activities office that has ideas for seniors to add to their bucket list. There are some pretty awesome ideas (which I naturally incorporated into my list). I know I had a really hard time coming up with a list, even with extensive research so I wanted to share my list to see if any of y'all had any ideas to add to my list!

Go strawberry picking
Bat at a batting cage
Make S'mores
Go to the Everglades and get a milkshake
Go to a baseball game and get a milkshake (I really like milkshakes)
Go to Fleet Week
Gove on a Thursday
Art Walk
Watch the Sunrise on the beach
LIV
Go to the ice skating club
Visit Sky Zone
Run a 5K
Picnic
Go to a Halloween party
Karaoke Bar
Jetski Tour
Take a picture with Sebastian
Go tanning on a school day
Try a Zumba class
Try a spinning class
Go to a yoga class taught by one of my sisters
Do yoga on the Green
Get a class of 2016 Pitcher
Take Senior pictures
Go to a school play
Take a picture with Sebastian (our mascot)
Go in the fountain
Take pictures at the front of the school
Decorate my grad cap
GRADUATE!

This is pretty much my run down of senior year. I have done some of these already, but I really need to kick it into gear and get more things done! Above all, I want to make the best memories with the best friends and have the most fun times. That is what college is all about. By senior year everything is already done, your grades, your internships, your clubs, you experiences, you positions held, all that is left is making sure that you fully enjoy all the hard work that you put in those previous three years. That being said I still don't feel like a senior, it is the most unreal feeling ever! I cannot wait to see what else this year has in store for me and hopefully enjoy the whole ride. (Don't forget about your grades!)

Do you have any more ideas for me?

Halloween {Party Ideas}

HelloOoOoOoOoO!!

So even though I do not like halloween all that much, I do like using it as an excuse to throw a party! Growing up my parents always threw parties for each holiday. I always looked forward to every party they would throw. My parents would get way too into the different holidays, but it really did make for the best memories growing up!!

Because of my parent's insistence and love for the holidays and the parties, I already know I want to host all sorts of holiday parties! This is has prompted the many, many different holiday idea pinterest boards.

I am so excited to get some Halloween partying on! Show me pictures of what you are all doing!
Happy Partying!

Halloween {Costume Ideas}

Spooky Greetings All!!

So I have to say that Halloween is actually one of my least favorite holidays. I don't like dressing up especially the whole "slutty" aspect of dressing up. I just feel like I cannot pull it off. I do enjoy seeing what fun costumes people come up with! I especially love group or couple costumes. It takes so much dedication to plan costumes like that! I compiled a list of costume ideas that I am considering for this year's halloween!! Hopefully it will be fun.

1 Rapunzel from Tangled | 2 Minnie Mouse | 3 Aliens from Toy Story
4 Minion | 5 Pineapple | 6 Scuba Diver
7 101 Dalmatians | 8 Crayon | 9 Men in Black
10 Loofah | 11 Mystery Gang | 12 Hippie

What are you going to be for Halloween?

Coconut Oil {Aromatherapy}

Hello Loves,

I love aromatherapy! So when I found that Coconut oil can be used to make an aromatherapy session I could not wait to try it out! I find that aromatherapy can be incredibly helpful especially in helping with relaxation from stress (school). I get all sorts of stuff from Bath & Body Works, but it would be so cool to make my own.

The recipe is pretty simple. You add your blend of favorite essential oils to some coconut oil. You dab this mixture to your temples and the back of your neck when you are feeling stressed or nauseous.

Suggestions:

essential oils for first aid and healing
Bay: benefits for clarifying and warming
Cardamon Seed: alluring, comforting, warming
Chamomile: calming, relaxing
Cinnamon: refreshing, vitalizing
Eucalyptus: purifying, invigorating
Lavender: calming
Lemon: cheering, refreshing (use sparingly)
Peppermint: invigorating, refreshing

I personally love calming scents to help me unwind from a long day at school or work. It is such a great way to relax! I find that aromatherapy is also very fun for a spa day or as part of a girls night!

What is your favorite scent?

Best Halloween Movies

Hello Loves!!

The best part of Halloween is the movies! I love sitting on the couch with some fun snack and friends to watch some not so scary Halloween movies. I am not a fan of the scary movies so I stick to the traditional not-so-scary movies. To top off all the awesome movies to watch there is the 13 Nights of Halloween on ABC Family.

What are some of the Halloween movies do you plan on watching?

Happy Hour

Hello Loves,

Three months ago I turned 21!! It was so fun! As part of being 21 I can now try out a bunch of different fun drinks. We get to go to different happy hours: Cheesecake Factory, a local bar, a wine house. Turns out I like wine* and fruity drinks! My friends and I are working on becoming wine experts by hosting wine and cheese nights as often as possible.

My sister and I decided to go out and buy Strawberry Daiquiri Mix. It was so easy and fun to make! I really like sweet, mixed drinks.

Recipe:
1 cup Rum
3/4 cup Lime Juice
1/3 cup Sugar
1 whole bag Frozen Strawberries

First blend the the rum and lime juice then dissolve the sugar in the mixture. Then blend the strawberries and the rum in the blender. Blend until smooth then serve in chilled glasses. Then ENJOY!!

What's your favorite drink?

Coconut Oil {Cracked Heels}

Hello Loves,
The coconut oil uses are multifaceted!! I learned that it can be a great moisturizer for cracked heels. Living in a place where you wear sandals basically year round, your heels get a lot of "wear and tear" - for lack of a better description- so they crack really easily! That's where the coconut oil comes in:

First use a pumice stone to slough off any excess buildup of cells. Then get a little bit of coconut oil on your fingertips and massage into your heels. Let dry. Repeat twice daily. Enjoy nice, soft heels!!

Out Of The Darkness Walk

Hello Loves,

This past weekend was our fall break. It was a great time off from school and work. I got to do a lot of work and relaxation that was, honestly, so needed. As a part of break I participated in the Out Of The Darkness Walk on campus. It was a community walk so the entire community got together to walk in honor of people we have lost to suicide and to bring awareness to this important topic. We were lucky enough to participate with American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in the amazing opening ceremonies and then walking to show how important and necessary suicide research is.

Everyone gets different colored beads that stand for different things. The blue ones are for awareness. Teal was in honor of a family member or friend that attempted. Other colors honored different people and relationships. It was so sad to see how many different people had so many different colored beads! I think it is a great idea to have the beads because it helps lend each other support.

Opening ceremonies included many different people speaking about suicide and research into mental health. Butterflies were then released by a local girls scout troop. Butterflies have a lot of symbolism for people fighting mental health stigmas. It was a beautiful sight to see them all lead the way.

Out of the Darkness Walks are truly amazing. I am so glad I was able to participate again this year. One year I would like to participate in the overnight walk.. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is an amazing organization that has done so much to help with suicide prevention and suicide research. It really is all about awareness!! We really need to do something to stop allowing our friends and family members to die to suicide. This is one of the leading causes of death that is not going down unlike the other leading causes of death. We need to get together to stop this!

All The Cupcakes

Hello Loves,

Yesterday was my first taste of vegan cupcakes. I am not someone that likes trying new foods. I am not very food adventurous but I must say I will try everything once and go from there. I love cupcakes and all sorts of sweets, but I'm not a huge fan of the whole vegan idea. I'm more partial to traditional/normal baked goods. Basically yesterday my friends and I kicked off fall break by going to aerial yoga then going to the bakery next door. As an avid Cupcake Wars fan, I couldn't just pass up trying the cupcake, even if they are vegan.

I ordered four different flavors (sadly I didn't take a picture until after I ate the first one). The first cupcake flavor I tried was triple chocolate. I can honestly say that chocolate flavored cupcakes are much more chocolatey when they are vegan!! I normally stay away from chocolate cakes, but I could not stop eating these.

I'm so happy I tried these cupcakes. I didn't eat them all; I shared with my little sister (who doesn't like cake, but loved these!). They were the best post-yoga treats I could ever think of. The cupcakes were moist and not at all dense. The frosting wasn't overly sweet, but just the perfect touch. Guess I need to go back for more flavors!!

Have you ever had a vegan cupcake?

Think Pink

Hello Loves,

As most of us know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is set up for all the people that have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another. In school we kicked off this month with the lighting of the fountains, the majority of the lights on campus are now pink! Another thing that happens during this month is that a lot of people will wear pink every day (or most days) for awareness. I will of course try to rep as much pink as possible!! Another way to support breast cancer research is to donate. Donations can go directly to foundations or you can buy things that will also donate to research! While I am all about donations, I really do like the fact that so many companies get involved in donating that I just tend to buy the items that also donate instead of donating myself.

Smash Box features the ribbon on the primer for breast cancer awareness. Northface put the pink on the jacket, also, as a way to create awareness and support for breast cancer awareness. Emi-Jay is giving the lowest priced hair tie in your basket for free, without promo code, in order to raise awareness. Clinique will donate $10 from the purchase to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Laurie's Pantry is donating all proceeds from their Pink Panther Granola. Aveda will donate $4 from the sales of this product to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation as well. 100% of the proceeds from the bralet sale will benefit Bright Pink. Estee Lauder will donate 100% of the proceeds of the Modern Muse Solid Perfume Key Chain to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The headband from Warrior Wear allows you to choose which foundation you want your proceeds to go to. Yoplait also allows you to choose where you want your donation to go to once you redeem your pink lids. Lokai will donate $1 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for each bracelet sold. A portion of the proceeds from the eos lip balms will benefit breast cancer research.

Stay Aware
XOXO,

Motivation Monday

Hello Loves!

Happy Monday! Today is a brand new start to the week and I hope y'all have the most amazing week. I know, at least for me, these past weeks have been pretty rough and completely insane. Luckily, this week is fall break so I get a couple days off from school!! I am so excited to have the break but I know its going to be jam packed with stuff to do. Since I've been having a rough time with school and life I decided I needed some motivation to get me through the week (and rest of the year).

I personally think this is a great goal. I don't interpret it to mean that you are famous or anything but just that your work is so good that your amazing reputation proceeds you.

You can do it!!

Back To School {Fall Outfits}

Hello Loves!!

School is back in session, September is underway, which means fall is creeping close!! Obviously moving from summer to fall can be a little difficult. You slowly have to phase out your cute, colorful, shorts and shirts and opt for warmer- but just as cute- scarves and boots! I love fall!! The outfits, the crispness in the air, the apples, falling leaves, and just the overall feeling.

What are you most excited in fall?
