Book Club: November 2015

Hello My Fellow Clubbies!!

Happy November! I hope y'all got a lot of reading done this month. Even with the break I wasn't as successful as I'd hope I would be. Hopefully I will have more time to get some more reading done!

one// The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
More than anything I wish I could say I was a fan of this book. It took my forever to get through this book. For some reason I just could not get hooked on this book. It was written very weirdly, it was difficult to fully understand what was happening. It had flashbacks but they weren't clearly marked so it was hard to follow the plot. I just really wish I could get into it!

What are you reading?

Hello Loves,

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It is the perfect kick off to the holiday season. It is a time for family and friends and to reflect on all the good things that occurred this past year. It is a great time to reflect on how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people and things in my life. This is also when we take our Christmas picture for the year and eat the most delicious food.

Appetizer: onion pizza (my dad's specialty!)

My sister decorated the table! It looked so nice and festive

the man bird of the hour! So amazing!! Still enjoying leftovers :)

Dinner wouldn't be complete without some dessert. We made an Apple Tart topped with chocolate M&M ice cream

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours. I hope you had an amazing day!

I'm thankful for:
- my family
- my friends
- my sisters (Chi Omega and not)
- my health
- my family and friends' health
- my access to education
- a safe community
- freedom
Lastly and definitely not least: each one of YOU!

Especially with how everything in the world is going and how difficult it is to see the good of everything that is happening it is important to remember how lucky we are. I know I am so incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful people and opportunities in my life that I will forever be grateful for.
What are you thankful for?

Coconut Oil {Nail & Cuticle Treatment}

Hello Loves,

Its been a while since I've written another addition to the series of "coconut oil uses" so today I wanted to share how coconut oil can be used as a nail and cuticle treatment. I love doing my nails!! I paint my nails a different color every week. Naturally it is much more involved than just painting my nails, I have to deal with the cuticles as well. It is important to keep your cuticles healthy and after some research and testing it out I found that coconut oil can be used!!!

Cuticles get raggedy. Nails get broken, chipped or dull. They need some TLC every now and again. There's about a million different store bough creams designed to miraculously fix all these problems. Usually they are overpriced and not even that great. This is why I looked into coconut oil.

Rub a little into your cuticles and over/around your nails to help smooth out flaws and encourage healthy growth. This does not have to happen every day, about once or twice a month is good enough.

How do you use coconut oil?

Black Friday Deals

Hello Loves,

BLACK FRIDAY TIME!!!! This is the best and worst time of the year. Best because of the deals. Worst because of the utter craziness! This year my mom needs a new laptop so we will be heading to Walmart to get a new laptop for her. Other than that I'm not entirely sure where we will be going. I loved Loehmann's Black Friday Sales always, but sadly they went out of business.... still not over that.

I find that the best way to go shopping on days like this one is to have a plan. To do research and know where you need to go first to get specific things. Black Friday is NOT a day to window shop and stroll around. It is utter craziness. The best way to get more bang for your buck is to research the different sales and come up with a plan of attack i.e. where to go first and what to buy first.

Those are the biggest places to look at for the sales. Another great website is This One it collects all the posted Black Friday ads and puts them all in one place so that they are easy to find and classify for your plan of attack on your shopping this Black Friday!
Do you normally Black Friday shop?

Self-Care Challenge

Hello Loves,

Mental Health is a very important part of life. It is something that comes up all the time and is very rarely talked about in a positive. In some way or another we all struggle at some point in life. This wonderful website has decided to challenge us all to have more self-care during this holiday season. The holidays are always a difficult time, for a variety of reasons, so it is very important to take care of oneself as much as possible.

The list has some cool and really helpful things to do like unplugging from technology for an hour or surrounding yourself with pictures of people you love. Other simple things like "have a laugh" or "watch a movie" are also suggested for the challenge. It starts Today, November 22nd and ends on January 3rd so as to cover the entire holiday season! So print it out and give it your best shot!

How do you self-care?

Gift Ideas for the Men in your Life

Hello Loves,

The holidays are right around the corner!!!! It is literally the best time of the year. I love Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and all of December!!! Christmas is literally my favorite. I love shopping for everyone in my life. I make a million lists with things I think they would like from what I hear them talk about throughout the year. But even with all that preparation shopping for the men in my life is always the most difficult! So I started researching early!!

Bacon Making Kit

I also love giving gift certificates to their favorite restaurants or tickets to different sporting events. I think these are good ways to spend time together! My dad and I went to a dolphins game and it was so fun, especially since it was great time to spend together.

Do you have gifts picked out for the guys in your life?

How To Get Out Of A Funk {Mood Busters}

Hello Loves,

Lately I've kind of been in a huge funk, I cannot even get inspiration for blog posts. Between a super busy and hectic schedule and not having inspiration it's been hard to write posts! Then I figured why not come up with ways to get me out of the funk and boost my mood. I tried to come up with some ideas and activities that would help me boost my mood.

Work out//
Going for a walk or a run is the perfect time for me to clear my head. I also really like throwing in some Zumba or yoga. Something about the working out that relieves stress, clears my head, and makes me feel productive

Go For A Drive//
Personally I hate driving, but when its sort of aimless with some music and the windows down just lets me let go and just clear my head. I especially enjoy it because it guarantees that I will be alone

Take a Shower//
Showers have this restorative energy to them. I always feel so much better after a shower.

Change Your Scenery//
If you're trying to be productive or not a change of scenery can really make a difference. Sometimes being in the same environment for too long can leave you unmotivated and discouraged. Going to a different place might just be the difference you need

I wish reading for fun was something I had more time for, but when I do make the time it makes my day so much better. It's a great way to just be in my own world for a while.

Clean Your Surroundings//
As my mom always says "messy room reflects a messy life" when I feel like my life is our of control cleaning up my room or surroundings really helps me clear my "messiness"

Watch A Movie//
I'm not a huge movie watcher but watching a movie or tv shows are a great way to clear your mind. Netflix is a great way to find shows to watch for a little while until you've cleared your mind and are ready to go back to work

Take A Nap//
Sometimes my funk is just extreme exhaustion. Nothing boosts my mood more than a refreshing and invigorating nap! Either do a 30 minute nap or throw in a full REM cycle with a 90 minute nap

Do Something You Love//
Whatever it is you love to do on your free time do that! Love blogging? cooking? reading? singing? go do it! Its guaranteed to help you feel better

Spend Time With Friends//
Hanging out with people and just enjoying yourself is a great way to boost your mood. Just being with people is an easy way to feel better. It may feel counterintuitive in the moment, but you'll feel great after

Make Plans//
It may be because I love my planner or I'm obsessed with organizing but knowing what I need to do and when in an organized fashion really helps me manage what I need to do

Make A New Playlist//
Music is a great way to change your mood. Go for your happiest songs and jam out. Head to spotify or make your own playlist.

Take Some Me Time//
Paint your nails, run some errands, do whatever it takes for you to focus on yourself. Taking me time ensures that you can really focus on what you are feeling and what your emotions are.

Write It Out//
I mean isn't that why I'm writing this? You don't necessarily need to have a diary, You can write it anywhere. I do have a journal. But writing out how you feel can be very therapeutic

What do you normally do?

Homecoming {Recap}

Hello Loves!!

Last week was last homecoming as an undergrad. It also marked the 90th anniversary of homecoming at my school! So you could say it was a pretty big deal. Our theme was "For My City" so everything revolved around the wonderful city of Miami. I'm happy to say that we won our game and had a blast the entire week. Sadly all the festivities meant putting a hold on studying which left everything for this week, making it completely hectic!

The day after opening ceremonies we had a day long service project, we did a beach clean up! At the beach we saw a mischievous raccoon steal some tortillas.

The early morning wake up call was totally worth it for this amazing view!! During the week we had homecoming King and Queen, tapping to a prestigious honor society on campus, OCheer, the homecoming concert, fireworks, a parade, and of course the boatburning!!

Tradition dictates that if the mast of the boat falls before the boat sinks then we will win homecoming.... That's exactly what happened!!!

My favorite part of the entire weekend was when one of my best friends decided to surprise us by actually coming back for homecoming. After crying and hugging her we finally got a cute picture.

Here's the Homecoming Queen at the football game with me. We enjoyed one final round of the "Frat Field of Dreams" tailgate.

She let me wear her crown making it hands down the most fun part! I really enjoyed my last homecoming. We cheered, sang, and chanted. We won the game, we cried, but most of all we had so much fun! I can't wait to be the crazy alum enjoyed many more homecomings!

How was your homecoming?

Senior Walk

Happy Football Monday!

An important tradition at my school is Senior Walk. This always happens at the Homecoming game. The tradition allows the seniors to walk onto the football field entering before everyone else. It has been a huge dream of mine to get on the football field! I am so happy that I got to experience this! That's one thing I can cross off my bucket list :).

Our stadium just got remodeled for this football season! Which means we were the first seniors to be able to get to see the stadium that up close. We needed to check in for Senior walk an hour and forty five minutes before kick off. This was a huge deterrent to a lot of people because it means we did not get to tailgate! Our school is known for tailgating. This game marks my last homecoming game of my undergraduate career. It is the first major last of senior year which made it very bittersweet.

What cool football tradition do you have?

How To Get More Involved

Hello Loves,

As a senior in college, I have seen the importance and advantages of getting as involved as possible in campus activities. It is a great way to meet people, make friends, and find new things that interest you. Getting involved will also help you gain leadership experience and make the memories that make college the best four years.

one// How do I find clubs?
There are many ways to find clubs to join. All schools have involvement fair, go to those and actually stop and talk to the people tabling! You will never know what cool events and clubs they will have available. Another way to find clubs and events is to look at fliers. Your campus is probably papered with different clubs about different meetings, read the flier then go to a meeting! Facebook is also a great tool. Search for your school's student involvement division on facebook and you will get a lot of notifications of ways to get involved. Read your school's newsletters those also have opportunities to get involved. Last but not least talk to your RA. Your RA will have many ideas and suggestions of clubs or organizations to get involved in. Don't shy away! You will not be the only new person there.

two// Getting to know people
Going to club meetings alone means you have to start talking to the strangers in the room that also go to these meetings. The good part about it is that you already know you have at least one thing in common, that club. You never know who you will meeting by doing this! Go to your friend's club meetings with them and talk to new people. Make it a point to talk to new people.

three//On a whim
I can characterize most of my college career as "oh, I did it on a whim". There was no real rhyme or reason for a lot of the clubs or organizations that I joined. I joined them because they sounded interesting, because I made friends, and because what they do interests me. When you don't really know what a club or organization is all about, but you have a feeling that you would like it, GO FOR IT!! Follow your gut feelings!!

four//New things
In high school, we all have our set interests. We all have things that we did for whatever reason, but college is a great time to explore new interests. Join clubs or organizations that spark an interest in you, something that excites you! I know it can be hard to know what you like, so join as many as possible until you can narrow it down. Don't stay in your box, reach out! You never know what interest you might develop that you didn't even know you were interested in before.

five// Greek life
Greek life is not for everyone! I know I talk about it a lot (because I'm in a sorority), but I also know it is not for everyone. That being said I think everyone should give it a chance. You meet truly incredible people with a vast variety of interests that they will help you develop new interests. If it doesn't work drop before initiation, but stick with it as much as possible, because you can truly find your niche there.

six//time management
The most important part of college is studying but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun too. Time management is very important in that aspect. Do not over stretch yourself because then you will not be able to give your all to organizations that mean a lot to you. You need to be able to enjoy your time and get studying done, do not over do it or you will not enjoy any part of college as much as you could!

How did you get involved?

Football Fanatics

Hello Football Fans!!

Happy Homecoming Y'all!!! This week has been homecoming week for us and we are gearing up for a really awesome game this weekend. It is one of the last games of our college football season and more specifically one of the last games of my college career. I am really excited to win this one!!

How is your football team doing? My steelers could use some help this season! I cannot wait to see which teams will make it to the playoffs. I'm not a huge football fan (I barely ever watch the games) but when it comes to my teams nothing can get between us! I am looking forward for the playoffs.

Good Luck to your team!!

Hello Loves!!

I hope you all had a spooktacular halloween!! It sure was an interesting and fun day for me. After going to Rocky Horror the night before, I had to wake up super early for a day of service. Rocky Horror was really fun. I would recommend everyone that has the chance to watch it to go out and enjoy it. It is definitely an experience. The day of service was part of the kick-off for homecoming this week! We did a really fun beach clean up.

This was my fabulous trash picking up partner! We picked up a lot of trash!

My gloves matched my bag therefore we needed a picture

While we were cleaning up there was a raccoon that stole some food from a BBQ. It grabbed a bag of tortillas and ran off to eat them. We were actually able to get close enough to take a couple of pictures. It was so funny!

For Halloween night I didn't actually go out. I was too tired from the day and decided to nap instead. I personally enjoyed my decision a lot. Even though I had a Crayon costume, I decided staying in was the best option for me.

What did you do for Halloween?
