Extra Day

Hello Loves!

This year is a leap year which means we get an extra day on the calendar!! It has something to do with the Sun and making up time and adjusting stuff, I'm not entirely sure what it is all about but we get an extra day. During recruitment our Recruitment Advisor told us to make the most out of our extra day. So this post goes out to her!! Here are some things you can do with your extra day to end February on a bright notes.

Hug your friends or family
Call someone you haven't talked to in a while
Eat ice cream
Read a book
Watch TED videos
Sit outside and enjoy the sun
Make yourself dinner
Watch the sunrise
Have a dance party
Throw a tea party
Take a nap
Knit a blanket
Write a list of everything you're grateful for

What are you doing on your extra day?

Book Club: February 2016

Hello Loves!

This was a pretty eventful month of reading even though it was shorter! I really enjoyed all the books that I got my hands on. It was perfect timing to read Go Set A Watchman with Harper Lee passing away. It was shocking news, but a great tribute to a great writer. Naturally I also read some Tina, I think I'll be laying off the comedians for a while now.

Bossypants by Tina Fey
I was expecting this one to be like Amy Poehler or Mindy Kaling's books but it is actually very different. It was like reading her story completely uncut. I appreciated that she didn't cut out anything and talked about how her life actually was along with how she actually felt. It wasn't a candy coated version, that doesn't mean to say there weren't jokes and laughs along the way.

Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee
Fun fact before I talk about this book: Harper Lee and I are in the same sorority!! How cool is that? I really liked this book. If you haven't read To Kill A Mockingbird I think you should read that one first. It was a great novel! I loved reading it all and it was such a fun read. Definitely a must read.

Just recently Buzzfeed came up with a list of literary references made in Gilmore Girls so now I have about a million more books to put on my list! Check it out here.

What are you reading?

Night Time Skincare Routine

Hello Loves!!

I'm not good at keeping up routines, especially when it comes to the ones at night! I am normally too tired and its too late to go through the whole routine. Well now that I'm done with the excuses, I need to find the most effective and least time consuming way to get a good routine down. I was looking at different things that I can do to try to work on my skin. Being in college it is hugely important to work on these types of routines because this is the skin you carry for the rest of your life. That is why they consistently tell us that we have to wear sunscreen. So here's what I've got! Let me know what you do.

1.  I always start by taking off my eye make-up (when I wear it). It is always the hardest makeup to take off which is why you need to loosen it up first. The Almay Eye Make-Up Remover is very important because it already comes with cotton pads and it's perfect for waterproof makeup. It is also great for traveling.

2. Lush's Ultrabland is my all time favorite makeup remover. It takes a little time getting used to but once you do it will last a really long time. You just spread it all over your face and remove it with a warm towel. It leaves some oily residue that can be used as moisturizer.

3. Clearly I'm a big Lush fan. I started using Aqua Marina when it still came in clear plastic containers. It is awesome for soothing, balancing, and toning skin. It is great for red or easily irritated skin. I know I have really sensitive skin so this one is really helpful.

4. The last thing I do regularly is put on moisturizer. I like to use Aveeno because it is lightweight and easy on the skin which is nice for me.

5. It is not necessary to exfoliate every night, it is only necessary to use it once a week. I only use the Clean & Clear exfoliating once a week and usually when I'm taking a shower. I really like it and it's actually very effective.

6. The Nivea Lip Butter is my favorite. It is super smooth and thick which makes it last a really long time. I usually put it on before bed and it makes my lips super soft for a day. I just use it all the time!

7. For full body lotion, I like using the Vaseline Aloe Cream. It is really light cream which makes it feel like its not even there. I like putting it on my legs especially after shaving. It is really a great cream and perfect to put on before going to bed in those dry winter months.

What's in your night time routine?

Magic Fam Expands

Hello Loves,

Big Little week is finally over. We added two wonderful new littles to the mix. I am now a GGBig which means I am officially old and irrelevant. Reveal was Wizard of Oz themed which was super cute. The reveal was "T-shirt Twins and Sock Sisters" so we all got the same shirts and socks. To reveal, all the new bigs stood behind a green curtain where their socks were showing underneath. The Littles had to match up their socks with the big's socks. The curtain would be dropped and REVEAL! There was a lot of screaming involved and some girls even got tackled to the floor.

Our last stack before revealing the newest additions to our family!!

Obsessed with this picture of us!

Our whole family from my big (GGGBig) to the newest littles

After reveal was over we took a ton of pictures and went out to fam dinner. My big joined us, meeting her GGGLittles. We got pizza and then ice cream. We might adopt another fam into our family. She would be twins with my glittle giving me another gglittle! I'm very excited to see what's in store for my wonderful, magical fam this semester.

National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Hello Loves!

I do a lot of posts about Mental Health issues. I think they are very important in our life today and for the most part they are ignored. I think it is a good time to take a week to reflect on how many people are affected by eating disorders and how many people develop them. It is a very trying and difficult time.
There are many resources available to help people that are dealing with eating disorders. Something that many people don't always realize is that the eating disorders affect the people around them as well. Here are some tips for people that are helping people with eating disorders:

1. Watch your language
- Be careful of what you say. Some things as innocent as "how are you doing? you look like you've lost weight" can actually be very hurtful. People are much more than their physical appearances and we should address those other complexities.

2. Know the signs
- Know what to look for. Have they lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time? Do they seem depressed, anxious, or both? Do they disappear after meals or avoid social gatherings? Do they seem to lose control around food? Do they spend a disproportionate amount of time exercising? If you can answer "yes" to one or more of these then you need to look into it more. Your concerns may not be met well but at least you're starting.

3. Reach out
- Do you know a student that might be struggling with an eating disorder? Speak out and reach out to them. Let them know that struggling is normal and encourage them to seek help. There are many resources out there.

NEDA kicked off this week with many different resources available to all. Their theme this year is "It takes 3 minutes" It only takes 3 minutes to complete a screening. There are many ways to get involved. Just learning more about eating disorders and how to support someone that may have or has an eating disorder. It is such a relevant part of our life even without fully noticing.

If you ever need help please don't hesitate to reach out! I am not a professional but I am here to listen. Also reach out to professionals. If you ever need a little extra love check out the Life Lines.

How are you doing?

Formal Dresses

Hello Loves,

The other day a girl in my sorority reminded all of us that there are less than 50 days until formal. Now 50 days may not seem that far away but that is less than 2 months and time flies!! It wasn't until then that I remembered I NEED A DRESS!!!! Coincidentally it is also Prom season so it is a perfect time to get shopping! I started looking around.

There are somethings to keep in mind when you are shopping for a prom dress. 1. its longevity, i.e. will you be able to use it again? I know I've reused my prom dressed for formal and semi-formal now in college. 2. Mix it up. You don't have to get the traditional long dresses every time. Having a short dress for junior prom and a long one for senior prom will help you in the future. Then you can use the short dress for semi-formal and the long one for formal and what not.

The most important thing I can recommend, when buying dresses, is wear what makes you feel confident! Don't just buy things because they are popular or trendy if they don't make you feel comfortable and confident. This is your party, your fun, your memories!! You only get these events once!

I just picked a bunch of different dresses so they can be used as inspiration! You by no means have to get these exact dresses. I know shopping can be very expensive (I can't afford some of these dresses) but I find it helpful to have an idea of what I like when I'm out shopping.

What kind of dress will you be rocking?

Start Somewhere

Hello Loves,

So I just saw this post on another blogger's site and it struck a chord with me. Lately, school has been absolutely insane! There has been so much going on and it has been very overwhelming, with so much stuff to do all the time. Its part of college, at times you are being pulled in many different directions. I get pretty easily overwhelmed when I get pulled in so many directions. I want to get everything done and I want it to be perfect, but that is not always possible so instead of doing stuff I end up focusing too much on what I have yet to get done and what I don't have time to do. After seeing this picture it just spoke to me.

YES! Just do something. Even if its small, it gets the ball rolling. It helps you motivate. I am very happy that I saw my friend's post. I hope you all feel some motivation during those overwhelming times.

Galentine's Day

Hello Loves!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day and weekend!! I had a very busy one. We had a Galentine's Day celebration with my sorority which was so fun and my chapter made it to the national instagram #famous. We had fun coloring station and a super cute photo booth. There was also a waffle bar!

Isn't the snap filter the cutest?

Best waffle bar ever!!! You could pick all the topping and customize as you like.

On Galentine's Day I also went with my mom to her friend's house. Her friend was babysitting some kids so I got to play with the cutest little baby ever. You could say it was the best day!!

What did you do this weekend?

Chocolate Monkey Bread {Recipe}

Hello Loves!!

I have been wanted to make Monkey Bread for the longest time! Ever since I first saw it on Pinterest I knew it was something I needed to make! I finally decided it was time to make the monkey bread. My sister and I decided to make it this past weekend and it was delicious, so I decided to share it with you all!

- Two croissant dinner rolls (pillsbury tubes type)
- 1 1/4 cup of chocolate chips
- 1/4 granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- powdered sugar (optional)

1. Preheat the oven to 350F and spray an 8-in pan with cooking oil.
2. Unroll the doughs and lay them flat into rectangles making sure to press the perforations to seal them.
3. Cut the large rectangle to make about 48 squares. It is okay if you make more just try to keep them as even as possible.
4. Place about 8 pieces of chocolate in the squares and roll them into balls. Pinch to seal. Repeat with all the squares
5. In a small mixing bowl, pour and mix the sugar and cocoa. Roll the dough balls in the mixture then place them in the cake pan.

6. Sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture on the dough. Pour the melted butter over the rest.
7. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the center is no longer doughy.

8. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Carefully unpan onto a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve warm.

It is absolutely delicious! It is also a perfect snack to bring for a Galentine's Day celebration.
Have you ever made Monkey Bread?

Hello Loves,

This past weekend I participated in a large on campus service activity. It is called FunDay. Its a great day where special citizens come to our campus for a day full of fun, music, festivals, and dancing. We did Arts & Crafts, then we had lunch followed by a tour around the Fun Fest which lead to a drum circle. The drum circle was my buddy's favorite part until the karaoke. He LOVED the karaoke. He is a rapper so it was clearly his favorite time. Everyone loved it, he signed people's shirts and everything. My friend and I came to the conclusion that we should've just spent the whole time at the Karaoke.

Sadly, I didn't get many pictures during the day. It was really fun! I'm glad I was able to do that one last time before graduating. Remember that it is important to try to get in as much as possible in your short four years! So go to your own FunDay!

Have a FunDay

Planning A Galentine's Days

Hello Loves!!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and if you're like me you don't have a "special someone" to celebrate with. But do not fear Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreations came up with an even better day: Galentine's Day. A day where you celebrate the important women in your life.

This year my sorority is hosting a Galentine's Day celebration on February 13th. I am so excited to go and enjoy my time with all my lovely sisters. They are definitely people I want to be celebrating this Valentine's day. But with all that celebrating we need to do some party planning. As you all know coming up with party planning ideas is my favorite. Here are some inspirations that we are using to have a great Galentine's Day!

Chocolate Heart Peanut Butter Cookies
These are super cute and a great way to celebrate any Galentine's Day Celebration.

Another really fun idea for food is a cupcake decorating station. You have a ton of cupcakes with many different toppings from frosting to sprinkles to mini chocolate chips and anything else in between. Last year my friends and I decided to make a pancake topping station. We had all sorts of delicious fruits to put on top as well as chocolate and whipped cream, of course!

Valentines Day Decor

No celebration would be complete without decorating the room as well! You obviously need a photobooth area for all your friends and this garland heart background would make the perfect photobooth background!

I am also a huge fan of this garland and its DIY which makes it even better!

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?
