Staycation-ing

Hello All!

Vacationing is something we all need to do! We need that time to explore, relax, unwind, and clear your head. It is so important to do that, you learn new things. Not only things about the place you are visiting but also about yourself. Vacations are times of renewal. The only issue is that it can be expensive to travel. That is why Staycations were created!

one//Clear your calendar
Our calendars fill up in the blink of an eye. For a staycation to work you need to have the weekend free of commitment. Clear your schedule, have no commitments, leave the weekend free for yourself. This is your time to relax. You can just turn off your phone and enjoy your time off.

two// Find a cute Bed & Breakfast
Sometimes just a little drive out of town will get you to a cute Bed & Breakfast or a cute little place that will help you escape your daily life. A little staycation would be great to leave the house. Finding something small or a hotel you always wanted to stay at would be a great start!

three// Explore a new place
It is never a bad thing to explore your city or town. Go a little out of town, a little drive away, somewhere completely new in your own hometown. Go on an adventure, drive without direction. You don't need to go far away to be on vacation.

four// Be a tourist
People come visit your city, town, home; go find out why! Go do that incredibly touristy thing, the one you swore you'd never do because it's over priced and a tourist trap. Be that tourist. Fall into that trap. Enjoy your time finding out what the tourists like about your home.

five//Treat yourself
One of the most fun part of vacations is the fact that you are spoiling yourself. You should carry that mindset on your staycation. Do your nails AND toes or finally get that slightly more expensive bottle of wine. Enjoy some more of the smaller things.

six//Bring a friend
Traveling alone can be a great adventure! This doesn't mean that traveling with friends would be a bad thing. It can be a great girls weekend getaway. It gives you time to recharge and reminisce, exchanging old stories and memories.

Staycations, whether you stay at home or you go a couple hours away, can be the perfect antidote to a busy life and hectic schedule. Take care of you and enjoy your fun little gift.

Beach Bag Essentials

Hello Loves,

My family and I have been going to the beach for as long as I can remember and even before that. When I was little we used to go during the week and every single weekend. I am lucky to have grown up in a place that gave us such easy access to the beach. Because of our consistent visit to the beach, I pretty much have it down as to what I like to bring to the beach!

For starters I like to bring a nice big bag. There are very many cute beach bags or straw totes out there, but I tend to use this one. I use that one mostly because I like how large they are. They fit everything I need. It even fits a nice large towel.

Inside my bag I like to keep a smaller "cosmetic" type bag to store all the things that I don't want to get wet. I put my cellphone, money, headphones, keys, money, etc. It makes it easier to find the stuff instead of just throwing them into my bag and hoping it doesn't get wet.

Sunglasses are a definite must! Not just for fashion but also so to protect your eyes. You need to get UV protection for your eyes. Just like UV rays can harm your skin they can harm your eyes. I've had these for a while now! They are so nice and dark and give great UV coverage.

Along with the sunglasses comes something very important: Sunscreen!! I always use high SPF and active/water sport sunscreen. This one is important for going into the water. Another important thing I bring along is chapstick. Try to get one with SPF to avoid any lip burns. I am super susceptible to burns so it is very important to get some on me and to reapply often.

Now the sand, water, sun, and people watching is incredibly fun, there are some other fun stuff to bring along. I like bringing something to read or listening to music. Like I mentioned before, I slip my headphones into my little baggie and pull them out when I want to listen to some Carrie Underwood :).

After sitting on the sand for a while, I always end up in the water to cool off a little. That leads to Beach Hair! Beach hair is great because it gives this sun kissed, blown away look. This look can be a little hard to tame at times. This is why I suggest bringing a brush to detangle and maybe bringing a beach spray to leave the look but also tame the mane.

Lastly, don't forget to bring water with lots of ice!! Something that keeps the ice and water cold so you can enjoy it all day long. My family will pack snacks and plenty of drinks to make an entire day of it!

What's in your beach bag?

Sunny Make Up

Hello All!

Summer is a hard time in terms of make up. Between all the outside activities and sun time makeup can just sweat off your face. Normally, I would not wear nearly as much make up over the summer. Its hard to plan activities that are make up friendly. Now I'm normally not a huge makeup wearer to begin with and I'm not even close to being a professional, but I have found a couple of things that I have really enjoyed this summer.

one// Neutrogena Lip Balm
I've liked Neutrogena lip products for a while now. They always leave my lips so incredibly soft and smooth. They're also great because they have SPF protection. It is slightly tinted which makes it great for everyday.

two// Moisturize
Being outside and constantly in the sun can leave your skin dry and flaky. Sometimes it is great to start your entire routine with the moisturizer. I like to also moisturize at night before bed, especially if I had a particularly sun heavy day.

three// Eyeliner
I love wearing eyeliner. It makes such a huge difference in your eyes and face. I think eyeliner can really make your eyes pop. Now I normally keep the black eyeliner for going out at night, for a softer, day look I like to go with a light brown or grey.

four// Dry Shampoo
I LOVE dry shampoo!! It is the best thing to ever been invented. It is easy to use and saves many, many hair styles and hours. I cannot say enough good things. Especially in the busy summer and crazy heat we need some extra dry shampoo.

five// Hair Mist
A great thing about summer is beach hair! Using some of the sea salt spray from Lush, it will help you get some great volume. I personally like curling my hair then using the hair mist as a volumizing spray.

What beauty products do you like?

Sun Safe

Hello All!

Naturally the first thing I did after West Virginia was sleep then I went to the beach! Now sun safety is hugely important! Does not matter how light or dark your skin is, but what's important is that you are safe and protect yourself from the sun. We are at the peak of summer now. So as we spend more and more days out in the sun, it becomes more and more important to protect yourself! Remember there is no such thing as a healthy tan! Please stay safe. Too many people I know have had skin cancer scares.

one// Listen to your skin
Do not listen to what other people say about your skin. You have to learn about your skin. my family has very fair skin. For the most part we are all very white, very blonde and we get horribly burned all the time. Embrace your skin and all the wonderful thing it does for you! It protects you and it keeps you safe. Sometimes I also fall into the rut of thinking pale skin isn't as beautiful as tanned, but we have to learn to listen to our bodies! The only time I listen to someone else is when there's a mole or it's a dermatologist.

two//Use SPF every day
It is soooo easy to forget to put on sunscreen on every day. And sometimes sunscreen is just a pain. I know I personally am not a huge fan of the smell. A quick way to put on sunscreen every day would be to use moisturizer that has SPF. Just put a little on your face and body before your make up. Or you can use tinted moisturizer with SPF. Don't forget to put some on your ear tops.

three//Avoid peak sun hours
This one is particularly hard to do. Especially in the summer. It feels like everything happens in the peak sun hours. The sun is strongest between 10am and 2 pm. Before heading outside try to do it on the off hours. Go for a morning run or hike or go for a sunset swim!

four//Apply sunscreen naked
This might sound riske but it is the best way of getting all the different crevices. When I put sunscreen on with my bathing suit on, it might shift or I will burn in weird patches. Start at the face and move down the body. This also gives the sunscreen more time settle in.

five//Cover up and stay in the shade
So you're out at the beach or you went to the park and its peak hours, not a cloud in the sky. Seek shade! Cover up. Use a hat, use sunglasses. Sit under an umbrella or under a tree.

six//Don't be fooled
It is easy to be fooled by a cloudy day. But sunburns can still happen when the day is cloudy!

Got any tips?

Mountain State

Hello All!

I am officially back from West Virginia!! It was an amazing trip and experience. I got to meet people from all over the country. There were volunteers from Alaska and Hawaii! It was so fun. I got to meet people that have worked on over 30 different disaster relief operations and others that were on their first one just like me.

West Virginia is absolutely gorgeous! On some days we woke up before the sun would rise and get home as it was setting. We had the most amazing views (when we weren't inside all day). I had a great time with an amazing team. I learned so much, because now hopefully I can bring some of that knowledge back home! And now I have a whole lot of new friends.

One of the days I had the privilege of visiting a neighborhood that got badly affected by the floods. It was incredibly humbling to see. It was so incredible to see the families picking up and moving on. To see the children still playing and having fun. These strong people were not going to let the floods ruin their lives. That was my biggest take away. No matter how horrible the situation, it is your choice to constantly move forward that will propel you in life.

Hello Loves!

Being in the mountains for so long has really made me miss the beach and sand. Just hanging out under the sun for a while and enjoying the sounds of the ocean crashing onto shore.

~Feeling 22~

Hello Friends!

Dropping in from West Virginia! Yesterday was my 22nd birthday! It's weird to be this old, although I am the youngest one here by a mile. I normally celebrate at home with my family especially since most of my friends are not around for my birthday. It was strange to not celebrate with family or friends. My mom and sister promised to make me a cake when I got home.

My team was wonderful enough to surprise me with a lunch! They ordered food and a cake. Its funny because we all work together in the same tiny office and somehow they managed to completely surprise me. I knew they were planning something for lunch but I didn't know much and I didn't really ask either. We call ourselves the Red Cross Family and it could not be more true <3 p="">

Shopping For Sunglasses

Hello Friends!

I love sunglasses!! I never leave home without a pair. Where I'm from you need them because it is so horribly sunny. They need to be dark and UV protective. Now choosing sunglasses can be very difficult. Just like bodies each face has a different shape. And with all the different sunglass shapes out there, there are different ones that look better on different shapes. Now I am all about choosing the sunglasses that you like best regardless of shape, I find that going in with a shape in mind or at least it helps you get rid of sunglass shapes you don't like.

Oval Face Shape: This means that you can pull off just about any shape of sunglasses. You can off balance the long shape with the horizontal rectangular shape.

Round Face Shape: Characterized by soft, contoured, feminine features, round faces generally have a width and height that are roughly equivalent. There are a lot of great opportunities to show off your style. Try some geometric shapes like horizontal frames, Wayfarers, and rectangular shape.

Square Face Shape: Bold features make you a natural head-turner! Features like a prominent forehead and a strong jawline. Try curvier frames like round, oval, cat eye, butterfly, and semi-rimless to accentuate your eyes.

Heart Face Shape: This typically means there's a good chance that you have a broader brow and a narrow chin. You can direct attention downward or elongate your look with some light-colored frames, frames with thin temples, or frames with exaggerated bottoms.

Celebrating 4th of July

Hello Friends!

Dropping in from West Virginia! This is my first time celebrating the Fourth away from my family! It was definitely an interesting experience and I missed watching the fireworks on the golf course back at home. I think this has made me the most homesick.

It was an interesting day! They had a BBQ for us in the warehouse. They decorated the whole place. We had a photo booth, bowling alley, food, and music. The only thing we were missing was fireworks, but it turns out fireworks are legal here so people were shooting them off everywhere. Before the party we actually had a tornado warning so we were hanging out in a tornado shelter for over 45 minutes because a tornado hit just a couple of miles away from where we were staying.

What did you do?

Habits to Adopt

Hello All!

Graduation was two months ago now. While it feels like a distant memory it also feels like it didn't happen. It is hard to find your way after graduation. Part of post-grad life is adjusting to living a more adult-like life. Now I won't even pretend that I'm living an adult life or that I'm doing anything similar to that, but there are some habits that we need to work on, just to be more successful in general!

one//Ask for help
I've slowly had to learn how to ask for help. I am literally the worst at it! Honestly, most times I would rather just not. But when you can reach out to a trustworthy person for advice or a mentor for help it can really change everything. In the long run it can really avoid headaches and long roundabout ways of doing things. Put your pride (and embarrassment) aside and just ask!

You'll be glad you did! Ask for directions. Ask for advice from your parents. Ask for help from your professor or boss. Ask your doctors all the questions you have. Ask away!

two//Saying no and Saying yes
Let me start off by saying that this goes both ways and both can be terrifying and difficult to do. It is important to be able to determine when to say yes and when to say no. Sometimes you have to say yes as a favor, sometimes you have to say no for your own sanity. And that's okay! Just listen to your gut; don't overextend yourself. (And if you do overextend yourself ask for help!)

Know when to say "yes!" to that job interview that scares you. Know when to say "no!" to something that goes against your values. Stay consistent, stay true to you.

three//Asserting yourself
This one is the hardest one for me! I tend to waver or falter, then get really angry with myself for changing my mind when I really did mean what I had originally said. I can be really passionate about things which causes me to say "yes" a lot and when I finally acknowledge I have too much on my plate it is really difficult for me to stick to my "no".

I always end up regretting not sticking to my original gut decision. While sometimes changing my mind can be beneficial there are other times that it would be much better if I could assert what I wanted. This was especially important in group projects. I am usually very quiet, a wallflower if you will, which causes me to step back.

four//Building credit
This is the one thing that I need to do so desperately in my life. If you are not building your credit start NOW. So when you need credit down the line (to buy a house or a car) you have a strong, healthy credit that you have been working on for years. The earlier you start the higher it will be when you need it.

I am not an expert by any means but my (very limited) advice would be to go to your bank and ask a financial planner for help. Don't hesitate to ask them all sorts of questions about things you don't understand (like retirement plans). Assert yourself and get when you want out of your future credit card.

five//Tipping
This is a very personal and cultural matter. We each have our own ideas on what we want to tip or what we think is acceptable. The one thing that I always struggle with is having cash on me to tip. For example, having cash for the valet or manicurist. These are the little things that need a couple of dollars. I always have to remind myself to take out cash from the bank just for those purposes!

six//Use what mom uses
As cheesy as it sounds "Mom knows best" but it is so true! She has done all the experimenting and testing of all the different brands out there for all the different things I could ever need. Mom seriously always knows best! So give her a call and ask for help.

seven//Moisturize daily
This is something my sister is really good at! I only seem to remember to moisturize is when I shave or my legs feel super dry. Its a really great habit to start and to do as early as possible. Finding the creams that work best for your skin type and make you feel radiant.

It is never too late to start!

Drink More Water

Hello Loves!

Happy Summer!!! Summer is a great time! It is a more relaxing, fun time. We spend more time outside. With more outside time comes more heat and more craziness. I don't know about you but I have a hard time drinking a lot of water. I know that I need to remind myself how important it is. Drinking water has so many health benefits, and I need to really work on that. Maybe we can work together!!

one// Find your water bottle
Finding your perfect water bottle is the most important part of drinking more water! I always have a water bottle with me (not that I always drink water). Do you want a water bottle that keeps things super cold? or something can you can clip? One that doesn't spill? This one is particularly popular at my office.

two// Flavored Water
Some people are not huge fans of the taste of water and I can understand that! Adding some fresh fruit can make all the difference. Making a very simple citrus water with some lemon or lime juice in the water then some slices of lemon or lime or even oranges. It changes up the water!

three// Water Breaks
If you're working in an office like I am, then you know it is hard to get your water intake. I find it easier when I'm outside and it's hot as all hell. In the office you don't feel that need nearly as much. I think it is easy to add your water when you have a schedule. Some people suggest drinking water every time you go to the bathroom.

four// Add Ice
While I normally don't like putting a lot of ice in my sodas (oops) putting ice in your soda helps water it down. Adding ice in different drinks like that, then you can up your water intake without realizing it.

Water Drinking app
five// Set a Water Goal
I have a very competitive streak. I like to set goals for myself and try my best to reach them. Using this app to track your water intake will help you reach your goals. It also reminds you to drink water! All ready for success.

Do you have any tips?
