Book Club: August 2016

Hello Fellow Clubbies!

So sorry it has been so long since I have done one of these! I have been so busy that I have left my reading by the wayside. I am completely disappointed by this. I really was planning on getting so much reading done this summer, but it has not happened. I need to organize myself better in order to get to my reading goals. Luckily, this month I was able to head to the beach and read a little.

Stealing Mona Lisa: A Mystery by Carson Morton
I love mystery books! It is a fun read and pretty easy to get through. It has mystery and excitement. It was a perfect beach book for the summer!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by Jack Throne
I read this book in one sitting...... Yes it was that good, yes I am obsessed with Harry Potter, yes I recommend it. I think everyone should read it. I think you should go pick it up now! It is a great book and being a script makes it an even faster read.

What are you reading?

Back-to-School?

Hello All,

Well this is my first full week where everyone is back to school and I am not. It is insanely weird to say the least. It honestly feels like I'm still on summer vacation. It is almost unreal that I actually graduated and am no longer in school.

I am really happy to hopefully see my Magic Fam again and hopefully make it to a football game or two along the way. Work has been insanely busy with Louisiana and possible hurricanes coming along it is going to be a long, long couple of weeks. Hopefully, soon everything will quiet down.

Hows back to school for you?

How to be Ultra Productive

Hello Friends,

Over the years the one thing that has really bothered me is when I feel like I am wasting time. When I know I have a lot of different things to do, but I am being wasteful with my time. I'm always looking for more ways to get stuff done and waste less time.

I don't even care, this says Beyonce, therefore it will be pinned.:

one// Be friends with time
Most of us (me included) have a love-hate relationship with time. There's never enough of it, it flies when you're having fun, time is cruel, and so on and so forth. But every time you dub something your enemy you're going to have a rough time working with it. We all get the same 24 hours to get things done, so let's make time your new best friend.

two//Make your morning routine non negotiable
Having your mornings set up the same, helps get you up and going much faster. I like to check my emails, look at facebook, go over my to-do list and finish preparing my stuff for the day. Yes some days it takes me longer to get out of bed or even to do all the things on my list, but I try to keep it up as much as possible. Getting into that routine will help kick start each day and make sure you don't miss anything!

three//Use a calendar and planner
I LOVE planners and calendar. I think I can say this until I am blue in the face. If it's not on my planner it is not happening. I would be SO lost without it. Between my meetings and tasks that I need to complete it is essential to start scheduling ahead. So whether you use a digital calendar or a physical like mine you need to get started on planning. Everyone uses their calendar differently so find something that works for you!

four//Block out your time
This has probably helped me the most. Breaking down my days has helped them become more manageable and it helps me get more things done. If for example I plan 2 hour blocks for blog work I try to get as many blog related things off my to-do list. By looking at my to-do list I can really choose the things I need to complete in that blocked time.

five//Overestimate your time
Sometimes I think I'm faster at work than I really am. I know that some things will take longer than others, but I still don't give myself the proper amount of time. If you're like me you'll have to start overestimating your time. I started doing this to start working on my tardiness and it has been so helpful! Now I am going to apply it to my time blocks. Instead of giving myself 5 minutes for something I will give myself a couple extra minutes so I don't stress and I can accurately schedule myself.

six//Have a clean, organized workspace
Every time I sit at my desk and it is a cluttered mess, I know I won't get anything done. I also get more distracted, and more overwhelmed. The best way to get going for me is to clean out my desk and get things nice and organized. My mom always says "organized desk, organized life".

seven// Set up email rules
For work I need my email open at all times. I'm basically tied to it. In order to separate myself I did not put it on my phone. my personal emails are on my phone and I only check them twice a day. Limiting my email helps me be more productive and it gives me a break from constant needs. Create your own rules.

Begin:

eight//Say "no" more
Learn to say no! This is the most important part. When you are overscheduling yourself, and you cannot get things done it sucks. You feel stressed and crappy about it. In order to be more productive you need to schedule less and say no more. Learn to say no to things and it will help you keep your sanity.

nine// Sweat it out
This is the one I am worst at! I always schedule my workout times in my calendar then between one excuse and another I don't get around to it. I am looking at adding yoga to my morning routines. Workouts are great they boost your mood, brain, and ability to focus! It also relieves stress and it is a great break from the daily grind. So don't be like me and actually stick to your workout times!! Just 30 minutes a day. DO IT!

ten//Don't blow yourself off
You have to respect your time, your goals, and your work. Ignore invitations and distractions and take your work and deadlines seriously! You are worth it. Your goals are worth it. Your work is worth it.

How do you stay productive?

Back-To-School Outfit Inspiration

Hello Friends!

Its that time again, figuring out what to wear while trying to get through class and school demands. Usually cute comfort is the way to go for me. I like to get a good mix of sweaters for the incredibly cold classes and still some fun pops of color. I, also, like having a wardrobe with a lot of pieces that can mix and match so it looks like I have a much more expansive closet.

Back-to-School is also a perfect time to start transitioning into fall from summer. You slowly start wearing more boots and sweaters and eventually coats. But still at the beginning of the school session you can wear all the summer clothes. It's a great transition time.

What are you wearing this school year?

Getting Your Planner Ready

Hello All,

So at this point you already know that I am completely obsessed with planners. I color code them, take them everywhere with me, and use them to the point of destruction. My entire life is in my planner. I live by the motto "if it's not in my planner, it's not happening." But in order to use your planner you need to prepare it! Now this sounds crazy but bear with me....

one// Pick out your agenda
This is the most important part of the whole process. You need to get an agenda that matches your needs. I personally love agendas with ample calendars with plenty of notes space for my to-do list. Definitely shop around until you find the one that works best for you. Think about what it is that you will need.

two// Figure out your color coding
Color coding is super important to me because I have a lot of different things going on for different organizations and places. The reason I use the colors is so that I can easily pick out the stuff that I need by the colors.

three//Decide how you will use your planner
By this I mean will you use the calendar? Will you write to-do lists every week, day, month? How will you write what is due? Look for the way that works best for you. I like to write things down on the calendar then again in the weekly view and I make myself a weekly to-do list. You need to do what will make sense to you.

four//Write it down
Start using it! There will be some things you know should already be on there, write them in. Keep it with you and get in the habit of writing everything down.

How do you prepare your planner?

Building Up Your Wardrobe Basics

Hello All,

One of my favorite parts about going back to school was always Back-To-School shopping. It is really a great time to clean out your closet and pick out your fall basics. These are the clothes that can be worn every day and mixed and matched. They make up a good base to build your closet from. There are a couple of different types of clothes that work for this. Typically nice pants, jeans, white t-shirts, button down shirts, and comfortable shoes really play into this role.

I just find that having a good basics for clothes will really help move my closet forward. It is much easier to shop with basics and still feel like you're not running out of clothes. It is hard to shop for clothes and so expensive especially trying to keep up with trends and styles. With these basics you can just add your personally twist to it!

Bama Bound X3

Hello Friends,

So last week I took off to Alabama again. While it was a planned trip, it feels like a total whirlwind. This is probably because I just got back from West Virginia and I already headed out again. Luckily I love traveling, but man am I tired. I am really looking forward to some quiet time at home.

This was a great trip. A little different from previous years in that we went to visit Auburn before we got to Tuscaloosa. It was truly beautiful. My little sister will be applying to colleges soon, so we were looking at some for her. I can't believe she's already applying to schools!!!

This is my favorite stop along the way. They have the most amazing peaches and tomatoes that were home grown. You can literally see the trees behind the stand.

Since we had more experience in Alabama we had a list of different places we wanted to visit (read: food we wanted to eat) and different things we wanted to do. We moved my sister into her new house (hopefully this will be the last time she moves).

We also had to be pretty handy. We painted, built stuff, cleaned, and moved all her stuff. It was so much fun, but exhausting and ridiculously hot!

Just getting my exercise in?

Things to Keep In Your Desk

Hello All,

School is right around the corner and it is kind of horrible. The worst part about being out of school is probably the fact that my desk is in utter disarray. Back-to-School always makes me want to clean up and organize for the coming up time. There are some things that are necessary in your desk to make it useful for your studies. Then it is a matter of staying on top of the organization as the year goes on. I find that when my desk is organized and clean my life is so much more orderly!

There are some things that I just tend to use a lot more at my desk and they are pretty much my go to important desk supplies. These are things that I honestly cannot get through my day without.

one// Stationary
I LOVE stationary! It is wonderful. Not just for sending letters but for to-do lists, notes, and everything in between. It just adds a personal touch to everything you do. Handwritten notes will always be more meaningful to me.

two// Desk Calendar
Obviously I am very obsessed with calendars and agendas. Agendas really help me stay organized, but it is also incredibly helpful to me to see it large on my desk. Having the days and everything clearly written out for me lets me look at everything with perspective. They are also great because they have space for to-do lists.

three// Pens & Pencils
How are you supposed to fill out your calendar without them? I personally love pencils (I know so elementary school of me).

four// Colored Paper Clips
I love colored paper clips! They come in so handy. Its not just to clip things together but also to mark different things on documents or to hold a bunch of important documents in place. Naturally things are color coded.

five// Tape
For whatever reason I use a lot of tape. This is probably because I break a lot of things all the time so I need tape. It seems that every time I sit to do something at my desk I need tape.

What do you have in your desk?

Olympic Games

Hello Loves,

I LOVE the Olympics!!! It is my favorite part of the summer. I look forward to all the Olympic games (yes both winter and summer). I know all the athletes and watch all the events. You could say that I have a small obsession. Sadly, I was unable to watch the Opening Ceremonies live since I was in the car.

I have to say that this was probably one of my least favorite ceremonies. I know that a lot of people really liked it, but I expected more. Luckily the events have not failed to impress so far. While I hope that the USA will win the medal count and blow away all the world records in the pool, I can't wait to see what these next few days have to offer.

I love every aspect of the games. Although I can do without the ridiculous amounts of commercial breaks. I do love the Olympic specific commercials. I like the hearing the stories of how the athletes got to where they got. I like comparing from one game to the present one. I like seeing the improvement. I like seeing records being broken, I like watching incredible things happen. And above all I love seeing the USA flag rising above all.

Do you watch the games?
