Happy Halloween!

Spooky Greetings All!

Well as you all know by now I am not the biggest fan of Halloween. But it is the start of the Holiday Season so that I am a fan of. The great part of this time of year is all the themed movies. So while I may not be a fan of the holiday I do enjoy a good Halloween movie!

I'm personally not a huge fan of the scary and gore movies. I prefer the happier Halloween movies (that's an oxymoron!) I like Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and Ghostbusters. The Addams Family and Goonies are also great Halloween movies. The idea of curling up and watching a good, funny themed movie is my favorite way to spend the day. This is definitely how I'll be spending my night.

Happy Halloween

DIY Manicure Tips

Hello Friends,

I love doing my nails. I just feel like my life is more put together when my nails are painted. Along with painted nails is nail care. The whole manicure feel, but doing it yourself. There's just something special about being about to pamper yourself. Something about having my nails done really makes me feel put together.

one// To soften and add moisture
Use honey and olive oil to soak your nails. This mixture will soften your nails and add moisture

two// To clean discolored nails
Use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to clean discolored nails. This mixture will lift the yellow and help clean them. This can remove any stains from dark polish.

three// To soften your cuticles
Use olive oil and essential oil to massage your cuticles. Use a q-tip to push them back so they don't get in the way of your polish.

four// To nourish your hands
Use hand lotion to give your hands a massage. It is a good way to get rid of tension in your hands plus it will prevent them from drying out!

five// To dry your nails faster
Use cooking spray. Spraying non-stick cooking spray on your freshly painted nails will help the polish dry, plus will add extra moisture to your cuticles!

six// To create matte nails
Use corn starch and clear nail polish to create a matte top coat. Make sure that you use the mixture right away so the corn starch doesn't dry out the polish.

seven// To clean up spilled nail polish
Use sugar. Sugar makes spilled nail polish clump so you can sweep it up off the floor instead of scrubbing it or leaving stains.

Do you have any tips?

Fire Safety Month

Hello Lovelies,

As October comes to a close I wanted to talk about something important that happens in October. October is Fire Safety Month. This is near and dear to me because of my work with the Red Cross. We respond to home fires every 8 minutes across the country. It is very important to teach families and kids about what to do in case of a fire. Just this past weekend 14 people passed away in a fire in Georgia. As the temperatures start to drop we see more fires.

one// Know where to go
As a family, pick a spot to go. A safe place. Somewhere that is far enough away that is safe but also somewhere close by to find. That is where you go when the alarm goes off and so you know everyone is safely there.

two// Check your smoke alarms
Test the alarms about once a month. Test them when people in your house least expect it that way they can really hear it. Make sure they all have batteries and work.

three// Do your drill
Practice getting out of your house in less than 2 minutes. Practice using secondary exits.

If you want to become a volunteer and help us reduce the amount of death and damages by home fires please click here

Have you practiced your safety?

Halloween {Party Planning}

Hello All!

A couple of weekends ago my Junior League provisional group threw a Halloween Party. The group that my party threw was for our philanthropy. We support a transitional housing for women and children that are escaping abusive or harmful situations. For that reason I was not able to take pictures of the party and the fun things that we did.

We had a lot of fun planning it. For starters we needed to get some booths and activities going. We had face painting, "pin the spider on the web", painting masks, dance parties, "count the cuties", create your own smoothie, and guess what's in the Black Box.

We made all of the activities ourselves and decorated the whole place. We had black, white, and orange streamers everywhere. We blew up balloons and hung them from the columns. We also made a very fun photo booth with black fringe and a sign that said "Happy Halloween." The kids loved posing in front of it and using all the Halloween props to pose.

We also had a costume drive so all the kids could pick their own costumes. The little ones automatically wore their new outfits. My little girl put on Anna from Frozen's dress. She insisted on being called Anna the rest of the day. Then we all go face paints.

The most fun part about it was that we could all do this ourselves. We had women stationed at each booth to help the kids. One woman did all the face paints with a kit from Target. We made the other activities so they could play. With the best Halloween playlist we had an epic dance off. I think all in all it was a great Halloween Party.

What are you doing for Halloween?

Personal Days

Hello Friends!

Lately I've found myself in a funk. An overworked, tired human funk. You know those moments, when you are just too tired so you get unmotivated and everything is just blah. You're in that funk. In these moments you need a personal day! Sometimes full days aren't possible so we need to take small steps to help us get out of that funk.

Sometimes it is as little as doing a couple of things that make you feel better. Other times it might be taking a full day off just for yourself. The funk can be deep and it could take a couple of days to feel refreshed and like yourself again.

one// Day Off
Actually plan activities to do. Either plan a day in with yoga, a mani pedi, tea time, or anything else that makes you feel relaxed and better. I personally don't like leaving my house, but I make it a point of getting out of my pjs so I feel better.

two// Go Outside
If it's a walk around the block, heading to the beach, or just sitting in the sun the outdoors can do wonders. The outside has all the healing powers and really helps clear your head. It can be a game changer to head outside and enjoy the day.

three// Treat Yourself
Personally I go for the ice cream and chocolates. Or chocolate ice cream! It can just be that one bowl that lets you focus on your own thing and enjoy the moment. Go get good ice cream with a friend and just enjoy that moment.

four// Tech Detox
Technology can really bog us down sometimes. It can be all the notifications, emails, constant communication all the time that can really push us down. Just turning off the technology and doing something else can really help clear your head. Put down the phone for 60 minutes and see what happens.

five// Read a Book
Whether its a book you are reading now or something you've been dying to pick up, just go for it. Set that time aside for yourself. Get lost in the new world that comes with the story.

six// Set the Mood
Pick up some flowers, light some candles. Do whatever makes your area feel cozy and comfortable. Do laundry so your sheets and clothes smell fresh when you put them on again. Clean your space up, declutter. I find that decluttering and cleaning helps me feel refreshed and less stressed. My mom always says that your space clutter is a representation of how you feel about your life.

seven// Cook a Meal
I personally hate cooking. Occasionally when I'm in a funk I have a craving for cooking. At times it's just baking something brand new or experimenting with new cuisine types. It can be relaxing to let loose in the kitchen.

What do you like to do?

Motivational Monday

Hello Loves,

I read this article the other day and it stuck with me. It was about telling people that they are allowed to leave. It was a simple article. A concise article. But it hit home. It is hard to remember sometimes that when you do not like the story you are in, the place you are at, or the way you're treated you CAN LEAVE.

You're allowed to leave any story you don't find yourself in. You're allowed to leave any story you don't love yourself in.

You're allowed to leave a city that has dimmed your light instead of making you shine brighter. You're allowed to pack all your bags and start over somewhere else and you're allowed to redefine the meaning of your life.

You're allowed to leave someone you love if they're treating you poorly, you're allowed to put yourself first if you're settling and you're allowed to walk away when you've tired over and over again but nothing has changed.

You're allowed to let toxic friends go, you're allowed to surround yourself with love. With people who encourage and nurture you. You're allowed to pick the kind of energy you want in your life.

You're allowed to forgive yourself for your biggest and smallest mistakes and you're allowed to be kind to yourself, you're allowed to look in the mirror and actually like the person you see.

We sometimes look at leaving as a bad thing or think of it as giving up or quitting, but sometimes leaving is the best thing you can do for yourself. Leaving allows you to change directions, to start over, to rediscover yourself, and the world. Leaving sometimes saves you from staying stuck in the wrong place with the wrong people. It opens a door for change, growth, opportunities, and redemption.

You always have the choice to leave until you find where you belong and what makes you happy! You're even allowed to leave the old you and reinvent yourself.

"If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave"- Mo Willems

Halloween {Costumes}

Hello Loves,

So, I hate Halloween. It is my least favorite holiday. I have a hard time choosing costumes, and everyone goes out. I think there is too much pressure in picking the perfect outfit. I personally love DIYs so why not attempt a DIY costume?

These are all pretty simple and really cute. Its basically a simple green, yellow, pink, red, or brown dress with some accessories. There's fruits, movies, food, movies, and songs! These are great no pressure ways to get your halloween costume.

What are you dressing as?

DIY Apple Spice Soap Bar

Hello Friends!

Fall is such a fun season. While I have a hard time picking my favorite season I do like very specific things about each season. I really love the scents and feelings that come with fall. The cool bite in the air, all the falling leaves. Its wonderful! More than anything I really enjoy a good DIY to bring the feeling of the season. These will be a fun DIY to do. I am not very good at DIY but making soap is fun, this one is particularly quick,

DIY Apple Spice Bar Soap | CGH Lifestyle

Supplies:
Melt and Pour Soap Base (2llbs makes eight 4oz bars)
Soap Molds
Apple soap scent
Red soap coloring
Cinnamon
Vanilla extract (optional)

Cut the soap base up into 1 inch cubes, and place in a microwave safe bowl. I’d recommend using a glass measuring cup, as it makes for an easier time pouring and cleaning up. I didn’t have one on hand, so this glass bowl had to do. Microwave the soap base in 30 second increments. I did this about 3 times, stirring in between each interval. The time can depend on your microwave, as well as the type of soap used. If your soap provides instructions with a different recommended time amount, follow those. As soon as your soap cubes are completely melted, quickly stir in the apple soap scent, red soap color, and cinnamon. I also added a dash of vanilla extract to add a little extra something.

DIY Apple Spice Bar Soap | CGH LifestyleStir your soap until it’s completely combined, then pour into your molds. After pouring into the molds, gently tap to bring the bubbles to the top so they can pop.

DIY Apple Spice Bar Soap | CGH LifestyleLet your soap set overnight. I found the easiest way to take them out of the molds is to turn the mold over, then press gently on the bar of soap until it pops out. Depending on the type of mold you use (plastic, silicone, etc.), you may find an easier method. Enjoy a nice warm bath with your homemade apple spice soap, then wrap the rest of your bars in plastic wrap or baggies to use later!

What other soap scents would you try?

Round Up

Hello Friends!

It has been a long and busy couple of weeks but I have seen some really fun stuff pop up around me so I am sharing.
Mini Diggers Treasure
For started I am so excited about this amusement park. It is super cool! You can pretend to drive construction vehicles. They look so fun, but also dangerous so it is great to have a place you can actually play with them. I really want to go!

[Image of probabilities of 34-kt winds]
If you have been watching the news at all you'll see is Hurricane Matthew. As you may have noticed it is the first time since 2007 that a category 5 forms in the Atlantic basin. Naturally work is in overdrive because of the hurricane. It has been a long week.

So obsessed with this little girl! She is so cute and I absolutely love her songs. I remember when she first came on America's Got Talent and just blew me away. I loved her song and she really is such a cutie.

I have a very extensive bucket list and I feel like I am constantly adding to it and not really doing stuff on it. While I want to take a more active approach and move forward on my bucket list I keep finding more things to add. These Bars are definitely going on my life. Luckily, many things on my bucket list occur in the same places. I'm going to have to do some extensive planning!

What things caught your eye?

Brunchin' Sundays

Hello Friends!

My friend and I decided to have brunch this weekend. We came up with a menu, did some shopping, and cooked for over an hour. It was SO worth it. We loved brunch so much that we have now planned themed brunches for the next month or so!

After a lot of back and forth we decided on Eggs Benedict and French Toast. We also made some fresh coffee. We did a coffee with frothed milk, cinnamon, and chocolate.

I personally like my coffee without milk but it is just so amazing with chocolate. It makes it like a mocha. I just put some sugar in my coffee and call it a day. We made the coffee with a French Press. I love Eggs Benedict. They are my favorite breakfast food. It is incredibly difficult to make. We had to learn how to poach eggs. Poaching eggs is incredibly difficult to do. We won't be doing it for a while but it was sooooo worth it!

I LOVE french toast, but I find it so difficult to make. We finally found a delicious recipe and it turned out so yummy. I am so happy that we decided to make it. There is a delicious restaurant around here that makes a nutella stuffed french toast. It is amazing. Hopefully next time we can replicate it. I am so looking forward to our next brunch adventure and seeing what we will make. Next week is Spanish themed :)

Do you like to brunch?

Cat-Sitting Adventures

Hello Friends!

So this past week I was cat-sitting for my glittle. She needed to get her cat out of the University housing to pass room checks. I figured it could be fun to have a cat in the house for the week. And I was so right. We had a couple of growing pains along the way, but we definitely had a great time. I have the best grandcat ever.

Meet Ollie:

He likes to participate in everything I do, which means I had a stalker for the week. He followed me into the bathroom and would sit on the toilet while I brushed my teeth and did my make up. He would lay by the door whenever I walked outside waiting for me to come in.

We took the most amazing naps together, mostly because he keeps me up at night. I finally figured out how to tire him out so he'll actually sleep at night. Hint: bells that double as balls!
He likes to play in his litter box and sit in dust pans. He also likes to take trash out of the garbage bin and play with it. He likes to climb on things and knock everything open.

He will wake you up when you sleep at night but not when you take a nap. He kicked me out of my bed one night and consistently walked on my face. But all and all he is such a cutie and now I want a cat!
Sadly, the first day he stayed over I learned that I actually have allergies and my face was all swollen the next morning, but antihistamines are life savers and I'd consider staying on them for the rest of my life just to have a cat......
