Book Club: January 2017

Hello Fellow Clubbies,

Well it has been a while since I wrote one of these! I have fallen behind on my reading and now that I'm getting close to the end of my 101 in 1001, I am making a last critical push to get to the list complete! I'm really excited about getting it all done. I'm nearly done with the list and now I have finally gotten back into the groove of reading regularly.

Anne of Green Gables// L.M. Montgomery
I loved reading this one. Anne is just so happy and imaginative. I know that this is typically a book read by a younger demographic, but I never read it in school so I really wanted to add this one to my list. I enjoyed living in Green Gable with Anne. She was a delight.

The Emperor's Children// Claire Messud
This is a fun and interesting book. It is about a group of 30 year old friends and their lives as it gets turned around by the arrival of one of the friend's cousin. Its such a fun read! It just flies by.

What are you reading?

Donut, you know!

Hi Friends!

This weekend my sister and I went on a little doughnut adventure! There is a really cool place nearby called the Salty Donut that has all sorts of fun and innovative donuts. They have many different specialty flavors and cool presentations. We got four donuts to try out and it was AMAZING.

When we got there about two hours after it was open, there was a line out the door. The line went down the block, so we knew we were in for a treat. Luckily, the wait wasn't very long and there were many different menu options posted for us to decided what we wanted beforehand.

At the ordering counter they had all the doughnuts on display so we could really see what we wanted! It was such a tough decision because they all looked amazing. As you progressed in line you stood in front of all the displays with all the fresh made donuts right there in front of you.

No good donut place would be complete without coffee and tea. Naturally, the salty donut does not disappoint. There was a wide variety of coffees to choose from. You couldn't go wrong with any of the coffee and donut combinations and options.

We decided on four donuts! I picked the Boston Cream (my favorite type of donut) and the StickyBunDonut. My sister choose the Nutella Stuffed and the Bacon + Maple. Hands down the best one was the nutella stuffed donut! Although Boston Cream will always hold a special place in my heart, I'd go for the Nutella one next time. The Sticky Bun Donut is a seasonal donut that has a sticky bun inside a doughnut. The sticky buns are found at a local farm that only has them seasonally. It was just as incredible as I thought it would be.

Here we are enjoying our doughnuts! It really was a great Saturday outing.

What's your favorite doughnut?

Statement Doormats

Hello Friends!!

I love home decor stuff! It is such a fun way to show your personality. I have always been fairly big on searching for things to decorate my room, and house. One piece of understated but fun home decor is doormats! You never really think about it, everyone has one, but its just something random you pick up. Luckily, my mom always searched for doormats she liked so I had that instilled in me. Your home is your home once you have a doormat to welcome people. So I found some fun doormats to share with you all today.

How To Look More Awake In The Morning

Hello Friends!

Sleep is a hard thing to come by sometimes. There are nights that I pass out and not even a bomb would wake me up and other days that I just can't seem to keep my eyes closed. Unfortunately those late nights are clearly evidenced on my face. I look extra pale with very dark circles around my eyes.

I know for sure that I am not alone in this boat. I don't feel or look awake some mornings. I have tried to stay clear of coffee, since that gives me headaches too often so I've had to result to different ways of looking more awake in the morning.

Drink Water// Throughout the day drink as much water as possible. It is good for you to drink at least 8 cups of water a day. Water helps to hydrate your skin and organs which causes us to only look more awake, but feel more awake.

Store Your Morning Eye Cream in the Fridge// applying anything cold under your eyes for five minutes or longer will drastically help reduce bags and puffy eyes. If you don't like eye or facial cream you can also use cold spoons or frozen peas under your eyes.

A Quick Splash// Spritz your face with cool water to help revive your skin

BB Cream// It is moisturizing and has SPF. It helps make your face all even toned.

Highlight// Use cream highlighter to give yourself a nice dewy fresh skin look and create a natural glow.

Exercise// If you have time do a quick exercise or stretch to get your circulation flowing, even if it is just for 10 minutes it will make a huge difference.

How do you look awake?

Wanderlust

Hello Fellow Wanderers,

I absolutely love traveling and exploring new places. This year I really wanted to try and squeeze in some more adventuring to my life. Hopefully, I will be able to get some more trips in. In the meantime I have an ever expanding list of places I want to visit.

Maine// One of my best friends lives in Maine and I really want to go for a visit. Since I am a Florida girl I know that winter in Maine is not for me so hopefully I can make it a summer visit.

Buenos Aires// My family just visited us from Buenos Aires. I would really love another chance to go back to my homeland and visit all my family.

Iceland// I am dying to see the Northern Lights! Iceland seems like such a different place to visit and I am so excited to hopefully see all that it has to offer.

Nantucket// It is such a fun summer place. Even though I live in the summer destination for many I would love to just explore this small, summer town.

Utah// For the skiing, the mountains, the relaxed nature, the amazing canyon. I love the mountains and their vast sense of adventure. I always feel so relaxed and rejuvenated when I'm in the mountains.

Disney World// I am obsessed with this magical place! It was on my 101 in 1001 but sadly I was not able to squeeze it in so far. I am hoping that I'll get to go back soon.

Australia// My best friend has not totally sold me on exploring Australia. He used to live there and he always talks about how fun and amazing it is. Hopefully I'll be able to visit the land down under.

Where do you want to go?

Night Time Routine

Hello Friends,

I have greatly struggled with finding a night time routine that works well for me. It seems that either its too many products or it doesn't help how it is supposed to. I have finally fallen into a routine that I really like and it helps my skin just how I expected it to help. I particularly like the fact that it is short and not very strong chemical wise.

one// Albolene
This is the best makeup remove ever! It is incredibly gentle when it takes everything off. It leaves the moisture sealed into your face. A little goes a long way The only down side is that you cannot take it off with water so you need to use cotton balls to take off your make up.

This is an amazing soap. It is really geared toward people with acne prone skin. While I don't have a lot of acne it is wonderful for my sensitive skin. It leaves a clean fresh feeling on my skin.

three// Witch Hazel
This cleanser has many, many benefits. Also geared for people with acne, it is actually wonderful for many different things. It helps with redness, irritation, dryness, etc. I like to dab it on with a small piece of cloth or cotton. Then you let it absorb completely.

four// Pond's Cream
Last but definitely not least I use this facial moisturizer. I LOVE the way it smell. It is great for sensitive skin and it really works. You work it into your face from your forehead down and let it absorb. I would say wait a little after the witch hazel so you it won't tingle or sting. This facial cream is my favorite.

What does your night time routine look like?

Tips To Improve Self-Discipline

Hello Friends!

There are many parts of a person that play into how successful they are. There are many personality traits and other things that determine whether a person accomplishes hings, reaches their goals, etc. But I believe that there is one thing that without a doubt makes all these traits successful: Self-Discipline. Luckily it is one thing that we can all work on! I truly believe that although it doesn't come naturally to most people, most of the successful people learned it.

Through hard work and habit-building. I think that just about anyone can become very disciplined. I have learned how to have discipline. And I still have many moments. You can do it!

Commit to it

Commit fully and completely to improving your self-discipline. Think about how much better you'll be and feel. If you don't commit fully, you'll probably end up giving up.

Know your Weaknesses

Everybody has a weakness (or 100). So figure out what your weaknesses, bad habits, negative behaviors are. Decide what you need to change in order to establish your discipline. Create ways to change these things.Make a Plan.

Remove Temptations

Once you've figured out what your weaknesses are, you should remove any temptations necessary to avoid falling back. For example: if you're trying to lose weight and chocolate is your weakness, throw out all of your chocolate and don't buy any more!

Change your Routine

Create an actionable plan, so that you can step-by-step change your routine to achieve your goals. If you want to build new habits and build up your self-discipline, slowly change the things that you do daily. It takes about 30 days to build a habit so just add something new into your routine and fully commit for 30 days. Just make sure to add things slowly not all at once.

Reward Yourself

Research shows that people are more likely to be motivated and disciplined if they have some sort of incentive. Find healthy and frugal ways to reward yourself for reaching your goals. Just make sure that your reward isn't something that will mess with your progress.

Don't Rely on Motivation

Motivation is obviously a great thing. It is super helpful! But you can't rely solely on motivation to get things done. If you do that, you'll never get anything done! To be honest, sometimes you just have to make yourself do things.

Get an Accountability Partner

Finding an accountability partner can be incredibly helpful. This is someone that is reliable to be there for you, to cheer you on, challenge you, celebrate your victories, and most importantly hold you accountable. Find someone who will make sure you do what you need to do and help you achieve your goals.

Be Easy on Yourself

If you aren't always disciplined, don't beat yourself up. We all hit bumps along the way. Nobody is 100% disciplined 100% of the time. Accept your mistakes and move on. Focusing on the negatives will not help you on your journey. It only hurts you and moves you backward.

Am I missing any tips?

MLK Day of Service

Hello All!

Martin Luther King Jr Day is usually celebrated as a day of service. A day we all do something for someone else. To celebrate this year I helped teach a Pillowcase Project class which teaches children about fire safety and preparedness. It was so much fun. I really enjoy teaching the classes and I was able to help new volunteers that have never taught before how to teach the class.

I believe this day is not just about equality but about empowering each other to accomplish great things. Hopefully, I was able to empower the new volunteers to teach more classes and empower the children to have a real conversation about preparedness at home. It is never easy to know if you're making a significant difference or not, but every little step forward is a change, a difference!

What did you do on the Day of Service?

101 in 1001 Update!

Hello Friends!

Well I am about 3 months away from completing my 101 in 1001 days. I have to say it was a lot more challenging that I had expected it to be. I knew some of the things on my list were going to be difficult, but I found myself having to more actively search for things that would fulfill my list. I do know that because of that I did have a lot more fun along the way. So I'm going to share some of the things I've been up to lately and hopefully come March 20th I'll have more things crossed off. I have accepted that I won't be done with all of it come March 20th, but I will create a new list and try again!

one// Have a Spa Weekend

My grandma and cousins came into town for a week. My grandma stayed with us. She's getting older so we really had a limited amount of things we could do, ultimately we stayed in one day and had facials. We also went to this wonderful spa and got our nails done! Even my mom joined in on the fun and it was a great time!

two// Send Christmas Cards

I finally did it!! I've been wanting to do this for so long and we keep taking Christmas card pictures but I never send them. This year I found some super cute cards (our pictures came out ugly) and I sent them to all my friends! I think they really liked it too.

three// Redesign Blog

You can see this one for yourself, the blog is totally different! I'm still trying to get used to what it looks like and I'm not 100% sure I love it, if not I can totally fix it up again, so not worried! This was a fun experiment though in getting out of my comfort zone.

four// Clean out my closet

I feel like this is a never ending feat, but I finally took a major step in getting rid of many useless things that were cluttering my closet and life. I had clothes from when I was 13 in my closet. It feels nice to start fresh!

DIY Rotating Goals List

Hello All!

So I saw this one online and I thought it was pretty freaking cool! Its a really great way of keeping a running to-do list in a more visible way. It helps you move things around in order to prioritize and because of the limited spaces it does not get super long.

What I love about this DIY is that you can easily change your goals by adding or removing Post-Its. Its a lot more tidy and satisfying than just crossing off a list. If you want to change the deadline you can do that pretty easily and there's always another sport for a Post-It note. You can mark when to accomplish your goals by. You can also stick your notes in priority order, making the more pressing goal first.

Its fairly easy to make as well. You can grab a piece of paper, I suggest card stock so its not as flimsy, and create your own design. Use a Post-It note to measure out the size of each slot and decorate away! You can use many colors and even alternate Post-It note colors. Make sure to include the deadline box so the list has a definitive deadline.

Just hang it by your desk and be motivated in no time!
What's on your goals list?

2017 Goals

Hello Loves,

We are now over a week into the new year and I think I have finally narrowed down and revamped my goals for 2017. It took me a little longer this year because I wanted to come up with a plan on how I could tackle each goal. Usually I set these goals up and then I get completely discouraged by how large of an obstacle it feels in front of me.

Personal

Use Time Wisely

I find that I waste a lot of time most days. I look at an overwhelming to-do list and then I sit around and do nothing. Its like I am waiting for motivation to hit me instead of going out there and finishing what needs to get done and finding motivation along the way. I would really like to effectively use my time to accomplish all the things I want to get done.

Go To Sleep Earlier

Along with my previous goal, I just don't go to sleep early enough then I'm dragging through the day. I would also like to have a consistent bed time. This will tie into my fitness goals of this year.

Create & Stick to a Fitness Routine

I've had a really hard time with exercise last year. This year my friend, M, and I are determined to get into a routine together. It is much easier when you have a workout buddy! We are trying all sorts of different exercises and trainings.

Social

Stay In Touch

I have a really hard time keeping in touch with all my friends that have moved away. I really would like to continue staying involved in their lives. I need to reach out more.

Put Myself Out There

I am slowly working on getting out of my shell more. I am painfully shy so its hard to fight my instincts and to actually get out of the house. I would like to put myself out there more in terms of trying new things and being silly with my friends. I want to create more memories and not regret things.

Career

Gain Direction

I had a really hard time career-wise after graduation last May. I applied for more jobs than I care to count and got nothing. I didn't even get rejection emails. After one particularly hurtful rejection, I decided I'm going back to grad school. I have started applying for grad schools, but I still feel like I need some extra direction. I feel like I'm floating around waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen. I need to gain direction and create a dream to work toward.

Start Grad School

I am hoping, wishing, and praying that I'll get into grad school to start in the Fall of 2017. Wish me luck!

Continue to Grow

I would like to take each fail as an opportunity to grow. Grow my blog in numbers. Grow my dreams and reach toward the future.

I am looking forward to 2017. Hopefully it will be a year full of growth and fun. A year with many adventures and lots of stories. Along with all my goals my 101 in 1001 days challenge will be ending in March of 2017, so I will be creating a new list and reflecting on how much I was able to accomplish.

What are your goals for 2017?

Pancakes & Pjs

Hello Friends!

In December it was my friend's 21st birthday! So in order to celebrate we took to Pinterest. We looked at many different ideas for birthday parties and finally settled on "Pancakes & Pjs." It had everything we wanted! Very low key, quiet night in, and comfortable. After scouring on Pinterest a little while longer we found some fun pancake recipes and a DIY mimosa bar. We sent out inviations and went full steam ahead. We had 2 days and a very limited budget to get everything we wanted done. But I have to say it was a SUCCESS!

Here's the party planning committee, we took cute pictures with the 21st balloons. We decided to make the theme a little rustic, have some pink and black. We used brown kraft paper as a table cloth and it was fun to write on. We had a photobooth and lots of balloons.

I blew up all the balloons. We wanted to have all the balloons on the floor because it was a lot of fun, to take pictures with them. I particularly liked the confetti balloons.

We had two different DIY bars.... A craft your own breakfast bar which included pancakes, syrup, fruits, chocolate chips, nutella, peanut butter, cookie butter, bagels, and bacon. It was a great amount of breakfast foods that allowed us to really mix & match our own breakfast.

For the DIY Mimosa bar we had a couple of different steps. It started by choosing your own glass then adding the fruit, pouring some juice and getting the bubbly! It was a great time and the different juices and fruits really added to the fun!

We had a tres leches cakes! It was wonderful! We added some strawberries and raspberries to the cake in order to add some color. It was a dulce de leche, tres leches cake. It was very moist.

Everyone enjoying the breakfast. It was wonderful because everyone actually came with their Pjs and really got into the spirit of the party.
Party time!

Ways to Organize your Life

Hello Lovelies!

Happy new year!! With a new year we all start working on resolutions and how we want to better our lives. We all want to do the best we can to make the new year the best possible. As I have learned year after year that the only way to really work to getting the resolutions together is to have physical step by step plans.

One of the things I promise myself that I will work on every year is a better organized home and space. Nothing is better than a home that's easy to navigate. Its great to be able to get around your house and office and actually be able to find everything. Here are some steps to take to feel more organized.
Throw away things you don't need
If you haven't used it in over a year then get rid of it!

Create a goal list
Keep yourself on track with a rotating goal list. You can easily track and change your goals with Post-its for an up-to-date board.

Organize your closet
This one is huge for me. Just throw things away and put an order to what you have! It will be the best thing that can ever happen.

Specify a daily junk basket
Having a place to toss your daily junk that doesn't otherwise have a place to be stored helps keep your space de-cluttered. I have a junk drawer, just don't forget to clean it out.

Install bars on bathroom doors
No one likes damp towels and hanging them will keep them out of the way and dry them out. So go ahead and use those walls, install some sleek bars, use them well!

Use a calendar
One of the most obvious things that I constantly hound on. Would it even be an organization list if I didn't mention it?

Organize your pantry
Put the cans with the cans, jars with the jars and all in their place so they are always easy to find.

Create DIY organizational things
Go on pinterest and start identifying things that will help get you organized. A fabric covered bulletin board. Mason jar organizers. Drawer organizers. Charging station. Peg Board.

Happy New Year!!

Hello All!

Well it is officially 2017!! I know everyone is so happy that 2016 is over, but I have to say it was a pretty good year for me. No year is perfect, but we have to take the good and the bad as it comes and learn to be better for the next year.

In 2016, I graduated from college, I started applying for my masters, I blogged every month, I got a cat, I was able to deploy and help people, I met a wonderful man, and I had a lot of fun family and friend time. Now it wasn't perfect, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!

2017 is a blank slate. A chance to start brand new and we have to take it. If 2016 was particularly sucky for you then make a change. Choose one thing a day, week, or month that you have to power to change for the better and do it. The future is in your hands! Take charge of it.

What did you do for New Years?
XOXO
