Things You're Probably Forgetting To Bring On A Plane

Hello Friends!!

Lately, I have the good fortune of being able to travel a lot to many different places. I have really enjoyed traveling, but in all of that there will be times I am stuck in an airport for what feels like forever or in a flight that is much too long. Throughout those different waiting games I've noticed a couple things that I find myself vying for but ultimately forgetting many times.


one// A portable battery pack

Obviously we all try our best to remember to back a phone charger, but what if you can't find an outlet? Now I know what you're all thinking "Daphne, they now have charging stations" yes, but how many times are those all completely taken? And then you're the weirdo that sits on the floor that everyone looks at (yes, that is me at all airports). Just make sure that you have your battery pack charged the night before.

two// Fuzzy Socks

This is one that try my best to always pack! Airports are really cold and so are planes. Fuzzy socks are the best way to get comfy and warm. Having a sweater and socks will be amazing for naps if needed. Trust me on this! Never forget your fuzzy socks.

 three// Noise-Canceling Headphones

Now this might sound crazy, but I am actually one of those people that forget to bring headphones. Typically this is because I like to read on planes. But lately with some of the late night airport stays or plane trips, It would be nice to have noise-canceling headphones or earplugs because I would like to get some sleep. They really are perfect to fully ignore the world around you.

four// Snacks!!!

Airport food is ridiculously expensive!! A Burger King meal for one cost me 10 BUCKS!!! How come a granola bar in the airport is the same amount of money has a meal in McDonald's outside the airport. Why must you punish me?? Now I won't lie I've had some pretty delicious food, like amazing hot chocolate in Newark

So you need a couple of combos that never fail:
Something Salty (like chips or pretzels)
Something savory (like a sandwich)
Something healthy-ish (like a granola bar or nuts)
Something sweet (like a bar of chocolate)

Take everything out of their original packages and put them in a separate ziploc baggie (you don't need to unwrap granola bars). They really don't take up that much room! Don't fall victim to the airport snack trap.

Easy July 4th Outfit Ides

Fourth of July is right around the corner! I have to say it is one of my favorite holidays. It comes right after Christmas and Thanksgiving. It really feels like summer during the Fourth plus its only 6 days away from my birthday, so its all win. With the Fourth of July comes the wonderful Red, White, and Blue outfits. I LOVE everything about the outfits and activities of the 4th. Here are some of my favorites.

Visiting the Queen City (Charlotte)

Hello Friends!



This past week I got to spend some time in Charlotte. It was a lot of fun. The purpose of the trip was actually a conference. Luckily, I got there a day early so I had plenty of time to explore. With some suggestions from my Uber driver, friends, and Google; I decided to make my way Uptown! It was so much fun!


The airport is cool. I seem to always have interesting flying times. No matter where I go or when, something weird happens to me. TSA in Charlotte was strange, the flight to Charlotte had crazy people yelling, and the flight home was delayed 2 hours! It was an adventure for sure.


In Uptown I stopped by a super cool coffee place called Coco's Design. It was very well and interestingly decorated. I had a fun time exploring it. My uber driver suggested I head over to Plaza Midwood for some more of the artist community! I went to Midwood Smokehouse and it was AMAZING! I'd highly recommend it. 


While walking around I did get to explore Plaza Midwood. I stopped in this super cute icecreamery. Called Two Scoops. It doesn't look like much on the inside, but it is amazing. The ice cream is homemade and the people are so kind.

Removing Digital Clutter

Hello Friends!

As we get into full swing for spring cleaning I realized on major part of my life that I constantly neglect to "clean up"...... My digital life!! It can be difficult to even think of digital clutter, or even how to get started. It doesn't take up physical space. You can't see it piling up when you walk into your home. It's SO easy to overlook.

Dealing with digital clutter is imperative. How often do we sit down at the computer to get work done, but end up completely distracted. We can't find a file, or something on the internet catches our eye. Digital clutter is not only distracting, but also clutters our brains.


So what steps do we take? How do we rid of a problem we often overlook? Here are some simple things we can all do.

One// Unsubscribe to unwanted emails

This is such an obvious one, but how often do we just delete the emails instead of going through the trouble of unsubscribing. I'm guilty of that! Be intentional when you check your email. Set time aside to sort through what's new in your inbox. I'd, also, suggest checking your emails on your computer instead of phone so you actually click on the links that you'll "just look at later". 

All those blogs, stores, email newsletters that you subscribe to? If you think "oh I'll look at it later" then never get around to it? UNSUBSCRIBE! If you don't you might miss an email you really needed. Go through your subscriptions and decide which ones you'd really like to make an effort to read. Keep those. Then make a point of reading them.

Two// Purge your internet bookmarks

I'm going to toot my own horn here and say that I'm really good at this! Basically follow the same rules as number one. If you bookmarked to read later, but then you never did? Unsubscribe. If you have a bookmark that you haven't clicked on in several month, unsubscribe! Be realistic with yourself. If something catches your eye again, go for it read it, then delete it! If it no longer interests you, delete it!

Three// Turn off phone notifications

Also something I'm fairly good at. I personally hate having a ton of notifications. I don't like watching my phone screen light up. The main issue I have is with the news article notifications. I personally love not having a long list of notifications on my phone. I don't need a long list of notifications to tell me what to look at. It is liberating to check facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc. when I can or want to.

I also like to turn on the "do not disturb" function on my phone. When I am particularly busy or need to concentrate that's when I like to turn it on. I like having the peace and quiet. I highly recommend doing this when you need some quiet time. It is also a good suggestion for overnights. I even turn on the do not disturb on my laptop so I'll get less distracted.


Four// Remove games and unused apps

If you are not using an app, they are taking up space that you could use for something else. Get rid of them! If they're games or distracting you from more important things, get rid of them!! If you don't have something that helps you procrastinate chances are, you'll be more productive. I know some people that don't even have Facebook on their phones.

Five// Remove unused icons from your desktop

Don't underestimate the power of a clean desktop. The same way a messy room can increase stress and anxiety, so can a messy desktop. You'll be surprised how much calmer you can feel looking at your computer and there aren't a slew of icons staring back at you. It also makes organizing your stuff wayy harder.

Six// Label everything!

I actually stole this from my parents. Get detailed in all your naming! That goes from folders to files. It is much easier to find things when they are clearly labeled. You will know what everything is and if it is worth keeping or tossing.

Because of my parents I am also in the habit of using dates to name my pictures. I used to opt for short names or descriptive names and it was confusing. Having the dates and a couple words to "name" the event made it easy to find and they are always in order! 

It takes some time to organize your files, but start sooner rather than later. Especially when you are uploading pictures. Immediately, name the pictures and put them in the correct files! All the time at the beginning saves time later.

Motivational Monday

Hello All!

Today is a travel day for me and I am actually writing this in between my traveling. I actually thought this would be a perfect day for a motivational Monday because
1. its Monday (insert groan)
2. Traveling always requires extra patience
3. the book I was reading on the plane inspired me! (Can't wait to share this one with you for my Book Club!)


I know it can be hard sometimes to trust that things are happening at the right time/for the right reason/the way you want them. We need to learn to explore our faith. Lately, this has been something I have to keep coming back to. I need to trust the waiting, fall into my faith.

Earlier this year I finished my first 101 things in 1001 days. It was a very fun journey. I have to say I learned a lot about myself and the different things I am capable of doing. As someone with an incredibly long bucket list, I think this is such a fun way to set goals and watch things get ticked off. So after a lot of careful deliberation I came up with my list.

Lusting After Laptop Stickers

So I got a new laptop (my old one imploded internally). I had great stickers on my old laptop and I really wanted new ones for my new laptop. As my sister mentioned: I'm "too old" for laptop sticker so I plan on put them on this laptop case. That way if I go somewhere more "serious" I won't have a ton of stickers on my laptop! Last to Graduate High School

Hello Friends!

This week my littlest sister graduated from high school AND turned 18. It is so crazy to think that we no longer have high schoolers in my house!! She will be heading off to college in the fall. I will definitely miss her like crazy, but she is ready for a whole new adventure. I am incredibly proud of my little sister. I can't wait to see everything she will accomplish. Although she will forever be the little kindergartener that started school with a broken arm.


It only took the make up master 3 hours to get ready for her big day! I got to do her hair.



OFFICIALLY GRADUATING!!!


So proud of her and all her incredible accomplishments. I hope Alabama is ready for you!

Knowing Yourself

One of the most important people in life to get to know is yourself! You think "well I live with myself, I already know everything" but its so fun to sit down and think internally of ourselves. What makes us who we are, why do we like certain things, what experiences shaped us. This guest post by Maxie really delves into the world of us. I hope you learned as much as I did.



What Knowing Yourself Actually Means

When we’re moving through life, there are a million voices telling us which way to go or what things to care about. There are messages on every platform telling us what to buy and who to be. Parents and loved ones have their opinions and friends have an impact, too. None of those inputs are negative on their own. However, when they start to become the voice inside of your head, muting your own, you’ve got some work to do.


Knowing yourself is what happens when you turn down everyone’s else’s opinions and projections and turn up your gut, intuition, and voice.


The trouble, though, is that it’s doled out as casual advice. You just have to know yourself. At face value, it’s like of course, duh, yes I need to know myself. That agreement, however, is quickly followed by questions of what that even means much less knowing how to do it. Knowing yourself doesn’t “just happen.” In the same way that you have to get to know a new friend in your life, you have to put the same effort into the budding relationship with yourself.


Because here’s the deal: I’ve been on both sides of knowing myself – the side that couldn’t have been farther away from who I really am and drowning in messages of what I thought I should be, and on the side I currently sit of knowing who I am – and I can tell you the latter changes everything.


Here’s a few question to ask yourself to become a step closer to knowing who you really are…


What comes naturally to you? When you’re able to do something well with very little effort, these are your talents. And knowing what those things are is a huge asset. Here’s why – your talents bring you energy, lots of it, so the more you’re operating in those talents, the more you’ll feel like the highest expression of yourself. My favorite assessment to find out your talents is StrengthsFinder.


What do you want? Your big huge desires are key to getting to know yourself because they help characterize what path you’re on and why. What’s important is to focus not so much on the “whats” and more on the “why.” If you’re struggling with what your big vision is, I’ve got just the workbook for you – I created this vision setting exercise to help you figure out what you want.


What do you like and hate? Likes and dislikes are important. Maybe you hate your major but were doing it to please someone. Maybe you love your curly hair but wanted to fit in. Start tuning in to what YOU (and only you) like and dislike, instead of what you “should” like or worrying too much about what looks good.


Are you listening? To your voice inside of your head. Is that voice YOU or is it society’s and the cultural constructions around you? Next time you have a decision to make, try tuning into how you feel. What’s your gut saying? What’s your body saying? My favorite way to do this is to get really quiet and lay on my floor with my hands on my chest and tummy. It sounds weird (I know!) but it helps me get away from everything else other than what my heart, body, mind, and gut are telling me.


Remember, knowing yourself is a process. No matter where we are, we all have to continuously push away messages and expectations around us to tune into what we want and who we are. With these questions, however, you’ll be off to a great start.
